You can't tell us you're gonna watch It Follows and then talk about how bad 30 Days Of Night is.

I said it was okay

Vision Quest. Classic mid 80s flick with a killer soundtrack. Starring a bunch of very young actors that would go on to pretty big fame and even an Oscar.

Spoiler for k:
this is like a proto spoiler because I feel like, even I don't say what it is, just saying there's a sick twist might still be disappointing.
But the twist rocked my world

Just saw guardians of the galaxy. I was laughing so hard. Great movie!

You're referring to the second one, right? The first one was pretty damn funny, but was way more solid when it came to its plot. The second one was just balls out insane and probably the funniest film I've ever watched. I mean, in a childish way it is. But still.

I agree for the most part. The second one is great if you just want a little mindless action and humor. The plot was a bit cookie cutter for a superhero film.

Possession (1981)

Holy moly. Such fascinating character dynamics, body language, and camerawork (which I can see directly influenced Tarantino's diner scene from Reservoir Dogs), among other things. I was totally immersed throughout the whole thing (apart from when I paused to make a shot from the movie into my avatar) and was totally blown away. Thanks for the rec Exoman.

The part with Pac-man was brilliant, I haven't laughed that hard in a theater in so damn long.

Chula Vista 06-01-2017 03:27 PM

Any of you peeps seen this?

Based on the novel by José Saramago. Movie did an excellent job of capturing the overall tone and vibe of the book. But it's such a long and slow emotional gut punch that I never want to see it again.

well blow me down

my favorite part was how I didn't think it sucked

djchameleon 06-01-2017 04:04 PM

Cube is pretty damn great. As for the numerous sequels. Well you know how that goes.

Bob! I need to talk about Covenant. Where you at?

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 06-01-2017 04:33 PM

nah it sucked. it felt like a scifi channel film, subpar acting and a pretty mediocre plot that was somewhat unique i guess.

Mondo Bungle 06-01-2017 04:34 PM

my favorite part is still how I didn't think it sucked

you know it's extra good when it has a 7+ average on imdb. Like 6 already is pretty good, 7 is borderline next level

Mondo Bungle 06-01-2017 04:38 PM

it's actually a new favorite, I was hooked from the start

they looked kinda lame. so I assume they don't stack up to the ultra suspense of the first? I loved that **** so hard.

djchameleon 06-01-2017 04:57 PM

Yeah those are horrible but you can't expect much from sequels in general especially when they keep trying to do the same thing again and again with a slight twist.

Mondo Bungle 06-01-2017 04:57 PM

triple post - The new Trainspotting is okay although probably overhyped

Mondo Bungle 06-02-2017 03:52 PM

Damn Cube does suck. I really want it to be awesome but in actuality it just makes me wanna hit people with dictionaries

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 06-02-2017 04:03 PM

you are a dictionary

I'll say what I told you in chat: It's a good concept that leads to some well executed ideas and they nail the stressful atmosphere, but it does have many flaws. I liked Circle better even though it was kind of stupid.

Mondo Bungle 06-02-2017 04:25 PM

I'm sorry do I know you

Frownland 06-02-2017 04:26 PM

Oh my bad. I wrote Cube.

Mondo Bungle 06-02-2017 04:28 PM

I directed it

Chula Vista 06-03-2017 12:52 PM

Analyze This. Forgot how freaking funny this was. DeNiro's best comedic role and him and Crystal together are ****ing gold.

Mondo Bungle 06-03-2017 09:31 PM

Antichrist is pretty dreadful and trance like with nice erect penis action. And you know how much I like some good erect penis

Rue 06-04-2017 10:23 AM

Late Spring. It was good, but I liked Tokyo Story more.

Chula Vista 06-04-2017 11:16 AM

Zodiac. David Fincher is brilliant. What a creepy flick based on real events.

The interview scene with the cops and Arthur Leigh Allen is chilling as is the scene when Graysmith confronts Allen at the store.

Frownland 06-04-2017 11:18 AM

I think that it's a great film as well, but what keeps it from getting a full 5/5 from me is that it feels like more of a by the numbers film when I know that Fincher is capable of taking some very successful chances. Still a 4.5/5 though, very well crafted and shot.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 06-04-2017 12:10 PM

i've always felt it was a bit too long, there are quite a few parts that always seem to drag along.

Sometimes simple dread and suspense can beat creativity and uniqueness.

I wish Zodiac was 10 hours long.

Could have benefited from more of the latter though.

I'm not trying to tell you your opinion is wrong by showing you these. Just trying to highlight why Fincher films, Zodiac in particular, are/is not cookie cutter or run of the mill.
