Watched Adventureland last night. Funny and sweet coming of age story set in 1987. One of those turn your brain off and just enjoy it kind of movies.
Excellent sountrack too! https://www.amazon.com/Adventureland.../dp/B0023H4Y64 |
And of course there's a guy fixing tiles or whatever in the bathroom when I'm about to **** myself. I'm getting sick and tired of having to duct tape my ******* shut.

Past two nights I decided to get my Batman fix in. I re-watched Batman Forever and Batman & Robin. Val Kilmer is a fine Batman but terrible Bruce Wayne. George Clooney is a believeable Bruce Wayne but horrible Batman.
Also what the **** was going on with the cartoony sound effects in Batman & Robin. I really don't get it. It is like he wanted to do a modern version of the 60s Batman for that movie. I guess that's why there are also all of those Ice puns that I just had to consistently groan at. Alicia Silverstone in her batsuit made it all worth it though. |
I need something to watch... any recs for something on Netflix that's semi obscure?

This new Death Note movie, I'm not so sure about the cast. Nat Wolff as Light? As in a Naked Brother? You need someone who can play both kind/innocent and manipulate/insane. I'm not sure if Nat Wolff can do that. And Keith Stanfield as L? I don't see a rapper who played Snoop Dogg playing L. Not appearance wise, but acting wise. L's a very unique character, so getting the right actor would likely be hard. We'll see how it turns out. Maybe I should get a little more familiar with him.
Still, they got Adam Wingard to direct the movie, so I have little doubt about how the overall quality of the filmmaking being great. I haven't seen any of Wingard's movies, but I'm aware he's one of the best modern horror directors. I've heard only good things about him. And with modern horror movies being either unoriginal, remakes, Asylum rip-offs, or cheesy B-movies, it's hard to get a consecutively good horror director these days. And based on the RT scores, it looks like he gets better every time he puts out another great horror flick. He's only done a couple bad movies, but most of them look like they get great reviews. I think this Death Note movie has a very low chance of sucking, poor casting choices or not. I wouldn't be surprised if Wingard put everything he knew about filmmaking into it. And I really want to see Willem DaFoe as Ryuk. |
It's a live action anime adaptation about a show that's nothing but talking and exposition. Who cares if it's not as good as the anime and manga that we already have?
|
So you wouldn't want a Death Note movie worth seeing? I guess I really want to see it out of my curiosity on how it will go. Plus, I'm really curious about Nat Wolff's possible ability to pull off Light. If he can do that, he'll prove he can play two different people, as two very different sides of Light are a major plot element in the anime. One is a thoughtful and genuine high school student while the other is a manipulative and self-serving mastermind. He can do those, he'll prove he can play pretty much anything he sets his mind to. At least, he'll show the world a new set of acting skills no one would've predicted. Thaty will open up a lot of opportunities in Hollywood for him.

There's not much about Death Note that would translate better to live action. Like I said, it's mostly dudes talking and explaining things. What would be added besides almost certainly cheesy CGI for the shinigami?
Now if we're talking that Evangelion live action movie I keep hearing about that keeps going nowhere, then I'm interested. |
Mayber the effects won't be cheesy. I mean, if people can do what they do with these Marvel movies, not as much money will be spent on a simple motion-capture.
Of course, the point isd really just to "americanize" the story, not to really "add" anything except to make it more relatable for American audiences. |
Eternal Sunshine. Liked it on my first watch and was emotionally affected but I hope it will sink in deeper with further watches.

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory It's a great movie, but is it also regarded as one of the creepiest movies ever made? When you think about it, Willy Wonka manipulates the people who made it into the factory to do things they're not supposed to and they never make it out of the factory alive. Willy Wonka never shows an ounce of emotion whenever this occurs, he just shrugs it off and continues with the tour. This is especially noticeable when it gets near the end and he doesn't even realize 90% of the group is missing, even though he watched them all fall to their imminent demise. Still a good movie though. |
^I don't think of Roald Dahl as a child-hating psychopath for no reason.
