I know you weren't asking me, but I thought this movie was amazing. I loved the make up and effects and costumes.

you're saying the Big Lebowski isn't revered amongst the college population? if anything it's more popular... i dont know how testosterone fits anywhere into W&I either, in terms of writing it is far and way the more theatrical and dare i say it gayer of the two. honest

let us never speak of this again

Pan's Labyrinth is a movie I've been wanting to see for a while.

I though Withnail & I wasn't quite as good as The Big Lebowski, but then again BL is one of my favorite movies of all time so it's hard to beat. I'd still recommend to anyone who likes comedy of any sort.

In terms of story it's very much the gayer of the two. Seeing as one of the characters is gay...

He's also the only negative character so I wouldn't really jump to calling it gay-er or gay friendly...

As for Lebowski being college asshole material, I agree, but thankfully it's also much smarter, has a much wider appeal and is better written and by much more talented people than Bruce Robinson, as his post-Withnail career has clearly shown (The Killing fields was pretty crap too).

But to each their own. :|

But that entire sequence where he sneaks into "I"'s room is actually one of my favorite parts of the movie. It's so hilarious.

Has anyone else seen The History Boys? The guys who plays Monty plays another old gay man who's into even younger men and it's pretty funny.

Nah, Withnail and I is simply slower and much more paced. It's from a completely different era of cinematography and cannot be watched with the same mindsight but it's by no means less clever or more poorly written. I can understand that someone who isn't English may not appreciate to an extent the characterisations and will cede that the appeal is narrower but you're definitely selling it short in your synopsis.
