Look, while you don't have to go in depth when talking about a film, can't you be a little more creative than simply calling every movie you see boring?

Ok well, I trust no one will ever see Lake Tahoe but what I wrote is a pretty accurate description of the plot. As for Away we go, I had...well I can't say high expectations because I only like one Mendes film (American Beauty 'f 'cours), but let's say I expected at least a moderately interesting film. It was conceived as a small, romantic film (the soundtrack is therefore "appropriately" warm and folky) and the style is very similar to the recent independent favorites such as Wendy and Lucy and Frozen river (both of which I liked much more than this crap, especially the latter) so for the first half hour I was willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. The two main characters are your ordinary Joe/Jane types (obvs, as you can see from the poster) in their mid 30s having a premature midlife crisis. They have a child on the way and decide to find a more appropriate setting to raise it. So they travel around the country in hopes of finding some suitable place. They visit their friends/family, ALL of which turn out to be complete nutcases (which begs the question why they were visiting them in the first place because their reactions to their "eccentricities" make it seem as if they don't know these people at all). This is where the humor is suppose to be derived from but for obvious reasons it doesn't work at all (oh look, a crazy woman in a loveless marriage who insults her children oh haha, and look, another crazy woman who breastfeeds her children in her office and is opposed to strollers oh hahaha, how cooky! ), and seeing as it was supposed to hold the very weak story together, you can imagine that after about 30 minutes of watching ordinary people doing ordinary things can get pretty tiresome. So ultimately, it's not a very rewarding experience but I guess you'll be finding that out for yourself. :\

Rubbish, which is disappointing considering the names behind it include Ray Davies, David Bowie, Julien Temple and Sade Adu. Great soundtrack though. |
I watched The Lives Of Others last night, one of the best films I've seen in a long time. I bought it on DVD earlier in the year and for some reason never go around to watching it, but finally did so last night and was left wondering why I hadn't watched it sooner. Great story on a background of an interesting period of history in the Socialist climate of East Germany and the Stasi. Lots of emotion and good character development.
Watched Fears of the Dark too, a collection of 10 animated films in black and white on the theme of the dark. It was okay, but some of the plots were a bit strange to the point of ridiculous. and lacking. Some were brilliant however, and the animation in them all was great, just a little something missing though. Interesting concept though. |

enjoyed it very much, donno why they always say it's a boring movie. But it's not a great movie, just enjoyable. |
Watched this today after picking it up over the weekend:
http://www.leiloespt.com/uploadedima..._the_shell.jpg Damn. I really enjoyed it and was taken aback with how much The Matrix borrowed from it. I actually wanted it to be longer and get some more back story on the characters but It was good enough for me to want to watch again very soon. The picture was a little soft in places and the greens bled a lot but I'm a boring old cinephile and I'm sure it won't bother many others. Well worth the quid I paid for it though. |
