Spoiler for in case you haven't seen it either:
recycled the best ever Trek movie, including the ending.
Could they not come up with something more original? I feel totally cheated. Shame on you all.

Wasn't it always a remake of Wrath of Khan? I knew that going into the movie and liked it a lot.

My boss, who's a huge QT fan, saw it last night and didn't like it.

I'm just going to pretend I didn't see that and maintain my excitement.

I have recently seen The Force Awakens. Ya know people are all like, "IT WAS FANTASTIC". Nope, it wasn't amazing, it was pretty good though. The character development wasn't rushed, I'd go to jakku. Seems like a chill place to coordinate some stuff, sum stuph

I didn't know. (So much for my spoiler, huh?) I'm not that interested in the reimagined Trek movies. Watched the first when it came to the telly, thought it was okay. But this was a slap in the face. ****ing rewrote the best parts of the movie and then called it a new one? Bollocks. When "John Harrison" said "My name is Khan", my heart sunk and I was within that of turning it off. Wish I had now. Waste of two hours or whatever. I could have used that time to trash a Beefheart album or write annoyed letters to magazines that don't exist.

Trollheart 12-29-2015 05:31 AM

Next up when I get the time: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. No, I haven't. So what? Again, it was on the telly over Xmas so I thought I may as well tape it.

The Martian, was amazeballs I saw it 3 times and am planning on moving to Mars this spring.

The Revenat was horrible turned it off after DiCaprio shot a bear in the face.

Straight outta compton was good for the first 1.5 then the actors gave up, and Ez E's slooooooow decent into Aids wasn't nessacery or festive.

Specter seemed ok till I fell asleep 14 minutes in.....

This has been another 20 second movie review.

Damon should win an award. He so ****ing nailed the character from the novel.

I'll go to Mars with you and we'll figure out how to co-exist. Bring extra ketchup.

The Batlord 12-29-2015 02:09 PM

I would love to go to Mars. I just want to see if I get some kind of vertigo by standing on its surface and realizing that for thousands of miles in all directions, there is nothing. That seems like such a colossal mindfuck.

Frownland 12-29-2015 02:11 PM

You can just take a road trip to Kansas for that.

Chula Vista 12-29-2015 02:18 PM

Everyone is bringing their A game today.

The Batlord 12-29-2015 02:55 PM

But then I would have to go to Kansas.

Didn't like The Martian. The Revenant is my FOTY 2015 so far.

Just finished watching Revenant.
Excellent movie. The mauling will go down in history as one of the most amazing scenes ever filmed.
The ending

Spoiler for Spoiler:
him seeing the wife and looking into the camera

felt a little corny, but that's a very minor criticism for an overall amazing movie.

Definitely want to see this movie. Not as bad as Devil In The White City however.

I can't wait for it to come out as well. The book is brilliant and I trust Scorcese to do well with it.

I agree the book was fantastic. Scorcese always does well with violent portrayals and has a good vision for narratives.

prisoner437x3y0 12-30-2015 06:08 PM

aw man its scorcese?

The movie is just going to be like all his other movies :-/

Frownland 12-30-2015 06:10 PM

Watched The Revanent today and I just have to say that surviving sucks. Great film, I especially loved the camerawork.

prisoner437x3y0 12-30-2015 06:11 PM

^ Tried to see it Xmas day but for some reason doesn't come out until jan 8th here. Kinda bummed.

Chula Vista 12-30-2015 07:40 PM

Sicario. Great great flick. Incredible acting. All of the leads are killer but Benicio steals almost every scene he's in. The cinematography will likely get an Oscar nod.

Spoiler for Spoiler:
The sequence early on where they drive into Mexico to extradite the cartel dude was so freaking intense.

prisoner437x3y0 12-30-2015 11:31 PM

hateful 8

has some okay dialogue but overall not on par with quentin's other works. It seems like the film was in response to the terrific response to the dialogue scenes of inglorious bastards, as such the film was pitched as a marathon of such scenes. This results in an unambitious plot and less inspired characters.

Still worth watching, but not very memorable. Put it along foxy brown or w/e that film was called.

DeadChannel 12-31-2015 12:58 AM

Jackie Brown is one of Tarantino's best.

Hateful Eight was definitley his weakest film since Death Proof, though. I enjoyed it a lot, but there were a lot of obvious flaws. I thought that the first half was a little weak and uninspired, and some of the dialogue felt like someone trying to write dialogue like QT rather than dialogue actually by him, but it picked up in the second half once moods started dieing imo. The cinematography was nice, and it kept me riveted over its lengthy run time. One thing that in particular felt off was the editing. There are points when the edit is actually exceptionally bad and amateur and lazy in a totally bad way. It seems like this film is really hurting for want of Tarantino's old editor Sally Menke, RIP.

Still, though, this film draws inspiration from a lot of my favourite spaghettis (especially Cut Throats Nine and The Great Silence) and other films that I love (The Thing) and it does it in a way that, in my opinion goes over really well. It's a movie that I liked, and one I look forward to seeing in theatres.

Yeah, Chivo did a great job shooting it. Almost guarenteed himself the third oscar in a row as far as I'm concerned. Film film I've seen on Arri's Alexa 65, and I'm now totally oogling the hell out of that camera. I love the look of celluloid film, but this is not only among the greatest achievements of digital cinema, it is one of the few films that could not have been shot any other way. I'm not sure that some of the complex camera moves here could have been pulled off any other way. Plus, the cold, sharp, clinical look of video really lends itself to the tone of the film.

Great movie all around. Probably my favourite that I've seen in 2015.

Chula Vista 01-03-2016 01:15 AM

So freaking cool. Can't wait to see the latest flick.

Harakiri and Sucker Punch were the last 2. I really enjoyed both despite they are too different from each other!
