The Golden Compass was awesome. I didn't understand all the bad media about it however.

Rather slow to start with but from the heist onwards (a 25 minute section with no dialogue-astonishing) this is simply suberb. Over 50 years old but still a damn good Gangster/Heist drama. This criterion edition is fantastic too with a stunning picture.

Because at the end of the third book, God dies. And throughout the books God is made out to be a megalomaniacal evil force that stops people from being true to themselves. But of course, that's just a fantasy novel. The invisible man in the sky can't die!

Yeah. I'm not enamoured with spoilers myself..........

I knew about all that but it's not even evident in the movie. Like if a lil kid watched it, they would have no idea what the book's meaning is.
