The best things about the film was the kinda stuff that seemed like they came out of another movie, a Coens movie. The creepy old Jewish guy with the IV that ran the firm, that was some classic Coen, the film just didn't have as much as those moments as their other films. |

Idiocracy - **
Has it's moments, there's some funny ideas but the execution is very underwelming and disappointing. This is a very un-subtle and obvious satire. Some of the gags are pretty funny, I liked how every character was named after a food product. But yeah, this is something that probably sounded a lot funnier when written on paper. Tis' a shame, I expected more from Mike Judge. Judge did this same kind of satire with Beavis and Butthead much much more successfully. |

I've been catching up on some British classics as of late (The Ladykillers, The servant, Brighton rock, The 39 steps, Kind hearts and coronets) and this one impressed me the most. I guess it's part of the British new wave, whatever that may be, it certainly shares the style of its more famous French cousins. It's not difficult to like a film with such an iconic performance by Albert Finney. He owns every shot he's in. But the entire cast excelles and the film never gets boring for even a minute. Definitely a keeper. - 9/10

new wave... have you seen Billy Liar? if you haven't that has to be right at the top of your list, you'd lav it. There's too many to mention really. I am a slave to kitchen sink dramas of the 60's Hollywood has absolutely slaughtered a couple recently - Ladykillers, Alfie. Why?! |

EXACTLY. but seriously you can't just take very period-specific ideas and regurgitate them in Americanese... well okay you can, and it really shouldn't annoy me anymore but it's just rape. Cultural rape. Post-war Britain is a sacred era man
Well at least Ladykillers bombed and nobody is going to remember the Alfie re-make in 30 years. |
