We had a bit of a Rosh Hashana movie marathon yesterday.

Dark City (1998): Enjoyable but I thought it was too cute and stylized, in the vein of the City of Lost Children and Delicatessen.

High-Rise (2015): Awful. Gets the tone all wrong. Painful to watch. Managed the feat of making me cringe at brilliant lines from the book expertly enunciated by fine actors because everything about it was inept and tryhard. I hate Ben Wheatley and feel stupid at trying to like A Field in England.

Existenz (1999): Rules. A Cronenberg classic. A tried and true palate-cleanser.

Saw Sam & Kate on hulu last night with Mrs. Drjohnrock. Dustin Hoffman, his son Sam, and Sissy Spacek are all fine actors but the movie was a somewhat predictable piece of fluff. Oh well, I've seen worse, and the location settings were nice.
