The movie Green Book is on Amazon Prime; has it been discussed already?

Like a lot of "based on a true story" movies it's not full of plot twists or surprises, but it is good at recreating a slice of 60s America.

If you watch it you may wonder like me, "Why have I never heard of the Don Shirley Trio before?" This striking song pops up when you search youtube, but I found most of Don Shirley's other music a little too well-behaved, a little too cerebral:-

Green Book was fine. I didn't find it terribly exciting and can't remember any lasting impressions, but I did enjoy it. No Birdman, though (my favourite best picture winner going back).

I saw Barbarian and didn't really like it. The start was good, but it's like it opts for a much stupider and less scary story than it could've been.

Smile was also kinda stupid, but rather more fun, I thought

The best part of Green Book was watching Viggo scarf down food the whole length of the film.

Back in the 60s no man would dream of counting calories

Another good thing about this kind of visiting of the racist past is the way you can enjoy feeling outraged throughout, asking yourself "How could people have behaved like that? I would've been different." The risk, of course, is that you get repetitive strain injury from 2 hours of patting yourself on the back.

Just saw Unbreakable. It's just of those movies I weirdly have not seen. Splice was okay and I figured if I watch Unbreakable, I can see Glass from 2019 next.

So Unbreakable being so well known, I already knew the story beforehand. The movie was okay, I guess, though not terribly entertaining. Let's say 6/10 for me.

I have to say the movie is pretty dour and takes itself very seriously for the subject matter. I've noticed this in some older movies, especially from the 90s and into the 00s. The Prohecy, where Christopher Walken plays the angel Gabriel and he's perching on the back of chairs like a god damned bird, is a good example of this.

Kinda cheesy, really.

I saw Unbreakable in the theater and really liked it. Then, several years later, I moved to Philadelphia and liked it even more because of all the great choices in locations here—especially those damn Manayunk steps! I've always appreciated how Hitchcockian it was for a superhero movie, and how nerdy as well. I also have never thought of it as taking itself very seriously. It has a decent amount of humor in it, including the way it ends.

I guess Sammy L Jackson's Glass taking comic books so seriously is what really nudged my opinion in this direction. He has his monologues about comic books (where he goes full Jules), the art of comic books and of course the way it motivates his actions. Bruce Willis' more reluctant hero isn't nearly as unbelievable (besides his powers ofc).

I just saw a commercial for a movie with Brendan Frasier playing a really fat dude and it's called The Whale and I think that's hilarious.

Triangle of Sadness

Easily the most fun I had with a movie this year. Go into this as blind as you can. It has one of the best 30 minutes of raucus choas I have ever seen put to film. My mouth was agape. It has Woody Harrelson chewing up scenery. It was a RIOT.
