I watched the Shnider cut. It's decent. 4 hours and it didn't feel like a chore watching it.

Needs more time though IMO. The thing about the MCU is they built up these characters and the story line through various movies so when the big event happened you actually cared. This one is like they rushed to have an Infinity War. So many events already happened that you have to be somewhat of a nerd to understand. Like they should have had perhaps a movie about Robin. Oh and the special effects were also not on par with MCU.

Same. And Schnider clearly doesn't get Superman. He was fine in these movies but you have to be willing to be at least somewhat corny to do Superman.

Prisoner of Second Ave (1975, Melvin Frank)
Neil Simon play made into a movie. Married middle aged New Yorker gets fired and has to depend on his wife for financial support. Jack Lemmon and Anne Bancroft are great. Streamer.

I'm in a movie sort of mood and dropping by here, so I'll rummage around this thread and look for some recommendations

The last three movies I saw were Crimes and misdemeanors (1989), Howards End (1992) and Phantasm II (1988).

Crimes and misdemeanors was a joy to watch. It's a Woody Allen movie set in New York and right up there among his best films alongside Hannah and her sisters and Annie Hall. It's a bit funny, a bit dramatic, you got some existential anxiety thrown in here. As usual in Woody Allen films, the movie seems more about portraying some people and events they find themselves in rather than tell a capital S story from start to finish. Still, it's relatively structured in the two stories it focuses on. Recommended if you think you might like it.

Howards end is an early 1900s period drama heavily featuring Emma Thompson, Anthony Hopkins and Helena Bonham Carter. The movie focuses on a drama between two families, the slightly bohemian Schlegel siblings and the businesslike Wilcoxes. It's a pleasant enough drama with some fun, quippy dialogue and some lovely english surroundings, especially around the titular house, Howards end. Recommended if you like period drama and sunday matinées.

Phantasm II was made about 9 years after the first movie and fully entrenched in the world and fashion of 80s horror. Two 80s guys are tracking down the tall man, a humanlike creature from another world that steals the dead from graveyards, turn them into slaves and decimate entire communities. It's got practical gore effects, ridiculous weapons, some dark humour and really owes its existence to movies like Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 and Evil Dead 2. Sadly, it's nowhere as fun as the latter of those two, but worth a peek for those wanting to check out what the Phantasm franchise is all about.

edit:

Since Hellraiser predates Berserk, shouldn't you flip it and say Godhand from Berserk is straight up the cenobites from Hellraiser?

Hellraiser 2 is a blast by the way. It's like a dark version of the Labyrinth and has lots more skinless people in it. Also, gotta love that 80s horror movie portrayal of an insane asylum.

The third movie and the rest suck ass and can be ignored. It's somewhat irritating in that Pinhead and the cenobites are these layered creatures in service of some greater ideal or agenda, angels to some and demons to others.. But then they just turn him into a slasher movie style bad guy, more or less like Jason. Screenplays written for other purposes were shoehorned into the Hellraiser franchise to keep copyrights alive. Bleh.

Merchant and Ivory masterpiece. One of my few perfect 10 movies, great combination of humour and pathos. And of course, the acting is superb.

Bats might like Hellraiser III for how ridiculous it gets. There's a lot of good novelty scenes in it.

Lol I'm aware I just worded that a bit wrong. I know I've heard there was a connection before but then I'm just watching the movie and this dude pops up and my Berserk fanboy brain just went like "ERMAGERD BERSERK!!!"
