She didn't give Forrest AIDS - she was intimate with him before she knew she was sick or even knew what AIDS was. The whole point was that she was an incest survivor and didn't think much of herself. Also, I personally don't view Forrest as "retarded" - he was an unselfish, loyal, loving person.

I finally got around to watching Dr. Strangelove. It's well made from a sort of technical perspective, but I can't say I actually enjoyed it. The humor has aged to the point of being painfully unfunny, and its high profile status made watching it a completely surprise free endeavour for me. Neither of those things are the movie's fault but nevertheless that was my experience. It makes me wonder if I would have enjoyed it if I had been able to see it when it was new or not.

Don't think I'd have found it belly-laugh funny in the 60s - past 12. But some of the situations are amusing. I like Peter Sellers when he's subtle, not farcical - his scenes with Sterling Hayden are the main reason why I revisit it.

I should have a nice backlog of stuff after going back through this thread, thanks to you. Cheers, Ando.

I don't expect any of the links (including/especially YouTube links) to stay up for long. It's nice when they do.

I didn't really enjoy those scenes, but I agree that that character was the best of Sellers' performances.

She shouldn't have been stringing along some retarded guy for years like that to begin with... Then to give him AIDS on top of it... tsk tsk

Forrest did not get AIDS in the film; and again, Jenny did not know she had AIDS (if she indeed had it - she referred to it as a "virus") when she was intimate with Forrest - she discovered that she was sick later on. I don't think that she ever meant to string him along - in fact, she was often running away because she had been abused in childhood and felt undeserving of his love. We can agree to disagree on that. I always felt she loved Forrest, actually, and didn't want to hurt him.

not knowing you have AIDS doesn't stop you from spreading it

she totally gave him AIDS and then birthed him an AIDS baby on top of it

and she didn't run away cause she felt undeserving of his love she was just bored with him cause he was so stupid

then when she was done having fun she settled down with the retarded guy and gave him AIDS, that's how i saw the movie.

PSA: Being HIV positive=/=Having AIDS.
Quote:
HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a virus that attacks cells that help the body fight infection, making a person more vulnerable to other infections and diseases. It is spread by contact with certain bodily fluids of a person with HIV, most commonly during unprotected sex (sex without a condom or HIV medicine to prevent or treat HIV), or through sharing injection drug equipment.

If left untreated, HIV can lead to the disease AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome)
