You should check out the book. It's quite different and one of the best sci-fi books ever. Although I'm not sure how much it looses in translation.

Oof.

Rational af. What did you see? I think that Ivan's Childhood is his most "accessible".

Thx. Fixed.

His movies bore the **** out of me. That trumps whatever else he might have to offer.

I watched Stalker and Solaris. At least his version of Solaris was better than the one with Clooney.

Straight up eye candy though, it's like jacking off my corneas. You should check out Ivan's Childhood.

Andrei Rublev is the only film of his that I felt was drawn out.

So in Solaris, you didn't find the 10 minute bit with stock footage of cars driving on a freeway to be drawn out?

Are you some sort of monk? I'm patient, but not that patient.

Bela Tarr though.

It's not that hard to watch things that are visually captivating imo. The car scene is an interesting sort of intermission/breather in the movie but is by and large unnecessary. That said I still think it looks nice. I put Stalker several notches higher than Solaris. I think it's his best alongside The Mirror.

It's been over 10 years since I watched Stalker. From what I can remember, there was one particular scene that I liked. The three (?) men sit near some water and talk. One of them is floating on his back in the water or laying in very shallow water. Super foggy memory, but I remember that scene as being the one moment in the movie where I was feeling hopeful it would get better.

The pub scene is my fave though it's been a few years for me as well. The visual transition from the earlier scene is very blunt and it's literally dank as ****.

Frames for days

It's definitely worth checking out, like I said the first 40 minutes or so had great pacing and then everything just seemed to slow to a crawl, and watching a slow paced movie at night is not a great idea, I had to stop it and watch the rest the next day because I couldn't keep my eyes open. As previously said it is very visually stimulating though.

I've never seen Solaris or any of his other movies so I didn't know what to expect, I'm open to checking out solaris.
