The LOTR films slowly died on me as I rewatched them several times over the years. Used to love them, but last time I went through the whole trilogy, I was mostly just bored out of my mind. A lot of the time, they don't even look that good anymore. I wonder if they'll really stand as classics over the years, or if they'll seem less impressive in hindsight to a lot of other people too.

It didn't affect Star Wars' legacy.

I still think those movies look great and very impressive for their time though. And they seem way less stiff and bloated to me in terms of the storytelling and the acting.

I'm no Star Wars fanboy, but I think the original trilogy is easily better than LOTR. I still like the first LOTR movie somewhat, actually. It's just a bit long and self-serious and cheesy and such, but oh well, can't have it all.

I'm pretty sure a lot of people think his Hobbit trilogy is ass.

Smaug's destruction of the Dwarven at the beginning of the first Hobbit movie is still one of the best parts of that series.

It just kicks ass.

To be fair, it's not like the books weren't clunky as all hell.

I thought that Star Wars had mediocre performances too. Can't say that they're super bloated though, they do still have that old-school sense of letting the landscape breathe when they set up a scene that I appreciate.

Can't remember the opening at all. The only thing I remember from early on in the movie is that whole mess with the dwarves invading D1ld0 Sagging's home.

I never actually read the LOTR books - or any Tolkien for that matter.

Pretty much agree with all of this. I really wish modern block buster movies would slow down a bit.

Not a fan of having a cut every 2.5 seconds?

"Seriously. Last night, man, I was so drunk, I was calling Morocco, man. Calling, trying to get to the Hotel Hilton at Tangiers in Casablanca, man. That's, I mean, that's, that's pathetic, man! Is that what you wanna do with your life? Suck down peppermint schnapps and try to call Morocco at two in the morning? That's senseless!"

I was just talking about that movie to someone a few days ago!
