Logan Lucky. Spoilers to follow soooo.

Pros: Adam Driver killed it. Daniel Craig has finally learned how to do an American accent. The heist was a lot of fun, tightly written, and highly detailed. It was shallow fun.

Cons: Seth McFarlane's character was about as nuanced and convincing as this disguise.

In addition, I found that the story lacked conflict of any kind, despite there being lots of opportunities for it. It was more or less a perfect heist, until the spinning-top-moment at the end, which I think helped save the ending. Howeverrrr, I really felt like they could have used 30-45 more minutes to give us some actual meat: WHY did Channing Tatum want to rob the venue in the first place? HOW did he know what to do and HOW did he learn how to do it? WHERE was the conflict? There were almost NO stakes and no appreciable risks taken during the entire course of the film. The NASCAR drivers served absolutely no purpose whatsoever and so wasted screentime--they could just as easily have been janitors or spectators or maintenance men or fed-ex guys or whatever--they contributed nothing at all to the story.

I appreciate that the lack of conflict made the story surprising in a way, because conflict is part of the film formula, however... it also made it kind of dissatisfying. Nobody wants to watch another person attempt to reach a goal and achieve it easily, quickly, and without complication or growth from it. So it was a fun film, but a better premise than story.

I really liked the soundtrack for Logan Lucky. There were a couple of old gems that I'd never heard of before it, and that was one of the main things I took away from it. It was an entertaining and fairly memorable movie, though, even if it was incomplete.

Table 19.

People hated this. I'm still not sure why? It was a cute rom-com. It wasn't perfect, but it was far from awful. However...

The Room.

Oh, hi Mark.

Favourite scene, closely followed by the part where Johnny knocks everything off the mantlepiece and one of the paintings falls against the camera hood.

Yeah, reminds me of that joke about Star Trek: "Kirk and Spock beam down to a planet that seems pretty ordinary, but after a while it becomes clear that everything is exactly as it seems."

Yeah...

Dogtooth, Alps, and The Lobster are all brilliant, but this is his masterpiece.
Better than The Lobster? I really need to see this.
