Frankenweenie

A really annoying case of missed potential. For the first 2/3 of the movie, it's pretty interesting and pays good attention to character and all sorts of clever details. Then it turns into a standard, frantic "the monsters are loose!" scenario and ends with a bit of cloying, Spielbergian pandering that really undercuts the themes of the movie. Blah. Tim Burton, why you gotta be so disappointing these days?

Haven't seen Take Shelter yet, but I've definitely come to respect Michael Shannon over the years. If he says yes to a role; it's probably got something going for it.

About Tim Burton: The last time I really, really liked one of his movies must have been way back with Corpse Bride in 2005.

Another movie that I bought today along with Frankenweenie was Burton's 2014 movie, Big Eyes. I'm hoping that one deserves it's "best Burton movie in years" reputation... At the very least, I know that I love the two lead actors (Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz).

One of a very few movies that gave me goosebumps. See it and then we can discuss the meaning of the ending.

Prepare to be blown completely the **** away.

I'll see if I can find it downtown tomorrow, maybe watch it somewhere during December. Either way, I already put it on my watchlist.

Crossing my fingers that it will make it to Danish cinemas before Christmas.

I'd go as far to say that Shannon is the greatest actor of our time. Even ahead of people like Day-Lewis and Fassbender.

Take Shelter is good but would mediocre without Shannon's performance. Still worth a watch, just a heads up so you don't get burned by high expectations.
