& of course I know what a Spitfire is

It's when the MC goes full NBA Jam and throws down verses so hard that they literally spit fire.

If he had checked downstream 1/4 mile there was a walking bridge he could have used. If he'd brought a map he would have known it.

Yeah he deluded himself too much with the idea of being 'free'. Should have made a back up plan or checked how he would get out.

Takes courage to wing it like he did though. For two years or so he was living the dream imo.

When he killed that moose he didn't have a fire ready, that was a bit silly, he could have been eating like a king for weeks if he smoked the meat.

Anyone seen this one yet?

It's supposedly this major, record breaking box office flop in the making, but I like Luc Besson, the director and it's based on some old comics that I'd really like to see on the big screen. Tomorrow evening I'll know what I think of it, but I just wondered if anyone here knows if it's really that bad?

Funny you posted that. I went to see it today but halfway through the movie. A storm rolled in and knocked the power out at the theater. I need to rewatch it. I went into that matinee super tired from the heat and dozed off like 30 mins into the film. I enjoyed what I saw so far of it. It was nice to enjoy a sci fi flick on that scale with hints of Fifth Element to it. Worth seeing on the big screen for the visuals alone.

The visuals are exactly what sold it to me when I watched the trailer. It might be refreshing to see a wildly colorful sci-fi movie like that. Next to the more recent big-budget fare, it looks fairly unique.

Also; a violent storm and extreme heat. You seem to have some significantly crazier weather than we're having here right now. 20 degrees celcius +/- 2 degrees, plus a dash of rain here and there and very little wind. Not great summer weather, but I don't think I'd like to trade it with the weather you're having!

The Churchill speech at the end was a nice touch.

Spoiler for Spoiler:
The film avoided the cliché of hearing it over the radio or in Parliament. Hearing it read haltingly by an exhausted infantryman gave the words even more power. To me it seemed that ending the movie with the Spitfire landing on the beach was a nod to the upcoming air battle, when the RAF would essentially save Britain.

Yeah the weather is crazy this summer. Earlier this morning I was sweating like crazy. It was around 30 C then the storm rolling through with rain so hard and windy it was horizontal for a bit. Cooled down the temp to 18 C though which is nice but ruined my movie watching. They did give me a free pass to watch another day. They ended up just having everyone evacuate when it died down some and closed up.

Good thing I didn't wait around to see Atomic Blonde. I would have only gotten about 10 mins into it before that all happened.

I just came back from watching Valerian and... holy cow. It's a mess.

Some things work, twice as many don't.

It looks really wild and imaginative at times. Some great creature designs, some cool machinery, some very interesting color usage that sometimes gets downright garish. A messy, convoluted plot and a few scenes of hamfisted exposition dumps. An extended scene with some dimension warping of sorts where the logistics of how the whole thing works were just too obtuse. The story was generally weak, which really hurts the film. Some of the comedy was hilarious. Some of it cringeworthy. The funniest scene involves two giant lemon halves and a very big hat. Really.

I liked the interesting casting choices and I liked the two leads more the further I got into the movie:

There's also a weird dance scene of sorts with Rihanna of all people. I liked that scene a lot, but it felt completely shoehorned into the movie.

I don't even know what to make of this movie yet. It was a real emotional rollercoster in all sorts of good and bad ways. ???/10.
