Ain't a masterpiece, but I was thoroughly entertained. The scene where the idiot lobs the grenade and kills his comrade was hysterical.

A friend of mine collects and digitally archives exotic laserdisc releases*and in celebration of May the Fourth he gave me a copy of his latest rip - an uncompressed 1983 Japanese pan and scan Laserdisc release of Star Wars with the original Dolby stereo theater mix from 1977.
I was never a fan of the franchise, but as a collector, this is something I'll hold onto.

Calvary (2014) What happens when a man who was sexually abused as a child by priests, unable to take out his anger on the now dead perpetrator, visits an innocent priest and tells him "I'm going to kill you, father. I'm going to kill you because you've done nothing wrong, because you're an innocent. They'll take notice of that, won't they? The death of a good priest; so much better than the death of a bad one." Brendan Gleeson, one of Ireland's brightest and most acclaimed actors, gives a stunning performance in the central role, while life unfolds around him and the question of the Catholic Church's culpability for its many sins and who should pay for them rages through the film, culminating in a stark ending that really in the end solves nothing. A fine example that Ireland can produce deep, thought-provoking and yet in many ways simple films as well as any other country.

I throw it on every now and again. Got it from my grandma who passed a few years back. I'll never get rid of it. |
