This movie deserves a mention in the DSM because if it ever happened in real life, I would just point at this movie and say that Nicolas Pisce told you so. Eyes of My Mother draws you in with some gorgeous black and white scene setting before bashing your head in with some disturbing and bizarre twists and turns.

The movie focuses on a descent into madness. If I were you, I would go into it blind plotwise because the way the film transpired was totally conflicting with what I was expecting to happen (for better or worse, mostly the former). The stark imagery really makes the more visceral parts more effective, which makes this movie really hard to watch. A lot of it made me feel disturbed and gross. It really is a fascinating character study that could have been fleshed out a little better, but was still excellent on its own.

This was such a great horror film that I'm not sure if I ever want to watch it again. 5/5.
So I actually watched a movie for the first time in a while.. Crazy, huh?

I wouldn't call this a horror movie, but I agree with your review otherwise. It was good enough to recommend and watch again, but I don't think a second viewing would add much to the experience. It was filmed concisely, which I liked. I didn't find myself creeped out or bothered at any point. I love these kinds of stories.

Spoiler for huh?:
I still don't understand how the guy that killed her mom was captured by Father. That entire scene confused the hell out of me. I was half asleep when I watched this, and rewound just to watch it again. It goes from Mother being beaten in the bathtub to Father shutting the door and just kinda staring. The next thing you know the guy is being dragged on a tarp into the barn.. Did I miss something?

I do too, but the atmosphere was really something else on this one. The chain getups and the blindfolds were used to great effect as far as the blunt and visceral elements of the story go. It could be the juxtaposition to the really beautiful shots that makes it cut more deeply.

Spoiler for .:
When the girl is initially caring for the killer, he has a lot of face wounds and she's picking glass out of them. I think the father bashed his head into the mirror and knocked him out.

I just watched Death Proof for the first time. I got a big Quentin Tarantino box set and it was the only movie in there I hadn't watched yet. I had seen Planet Terror before and wasn't too impressed (I feel "meh" about most of Rodriguez's movies), so I kept this one on the back burner. I was pleasantly surprised - not a Tarantino classic by any means, but as far as the whole "grindhouse" vibe goes, it nails it. Plus, I love Kurt Russell.

"The Secret in their Eyes" for the 3rd or 4th time. (the original - the remake is terrible)

It just doesn't get any better.

Wow, Django's dead last? Can I ask why? And Kill Bill v1 lower than v2? I think I rate 2 higher than a lot of people, but it's definitely not better than 1. Sticking with your convention:
