The first Hellraiser is legitimately disturbing. I hated how Pinhead became some kind of generic killer in a slasher film later in the series. If there's one constant for horror movies, it's that a successful one will sequel itself into ridiculousness without fail.

I've been on a horror kick myself. Just rewatched The Fog (one of the few John Carpenter films that has taken me a little while to appreciate), Reanimator, Bride of Reanimator, 28 Weeks Later (this with 28 Days Later make up an excellent back to back watch - there are things 28 Days Later does better and things it lacks and vice versa), and the entire Friday the 13th series. I had only ever watched the first 2 and then Jason Takes Manhattan, so I had no idea what to expect for the other ones. Those movies go up and down, but every one of them was a great "I'm gonna turn my brain off for 90 minutes" movie. Personal favorites are part 3, part 4, and part 7.

I have not. If you are recommending it, I'd be happy to check it out. Right now I've got these on the docket:

Nightmare on Elm Street runthrough (I've only ever really seen the first 2)
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Phantasm runthrough (I've only seen the first one)

All the horror people must see Calvaire, the French equivalent of TCM/Deliverance.

Yeah, I definitely recommend it, it's probably my favorite body-horror comedy.

Have fun with the Nightmare on Elm Street movies, they're cheesy as hell but they have their moments. Three is my personal favorite.

Eyes of My Mother

Let me start this off by saying what the **** man. That **** was weird.

This movie deserves a mention in the DSM because if it ever happened in real life, I would just point at this movie and say that Nicolas Pisce told you so. Eyes of My Mother draws you in with some gorgeous black and white scene setting before bashing your head in with some disturbing and bizarre twists and turns.

The movie focuses on a descent into madness. If I were you, I would go into it blind plotwise because the way the film transpired was totally conflicting with what I was expecting to happen (for better or worse, mostly the former). The stark imagery really makes the more visceral parts more effective, which makes this movie really hard to watch. A lot of it made me feel disturbed and gross. It really is a fascinating character study that could have been fleshed out a little better, but was still excellent on its own.

This was such a great horror film that I'm not sure if I ever want to watch it again. 5/5.
