i think i liked it more than you but i agree with pretty much everything you said.
i watched you're next recently. it was great. definitely among the elite modern horror films imo, just a perfect blend of scary, violent, and fun. the twists are great and i love the casting. a must watch as far as im concerned. need to watch the Wailing soon. one of my friends keeps telling me to check it out, currently has a 99% on RT so i have high hopes.

So I'm curious about modern (within the last... 15-20 years) slasher movies that are something more than just Scream sequels and those awful movies ripping them off, like I Know What You Did Last Summer. Deconstructions (besides Cabin in the Woods), well-made revivals, and just weird takes on the genre are great. Just give me them.

Seen The Strangers, and it was ****ing awesome, but I'll check out Sinister. And while I love a ****ton of the horror that's come out recently, slasher movies are a great concept for the new horror movement to play with, and I'm sad that they're largely ignored. I feel like a new take on the basic concept of the original Halloween would be amazing in the current climate (aside from the Rob Zombie movies, which I still hold are fun as **** and the best Halloween movies since the original by a mile).

There's Hush, but while I liked it it wasn't amazing.
Not exactly a slasher but have you seen Martyrs?

And is Hush a decent movie for someone with mediocre taste in things in general?

Sounds ****ing good. Remember, I liked the Rob Zombie Halloween movies, so I am probably a pleb. I even liked the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie.

I enjoyed Hush a lot. Unique take on the terror genre and while there's not a lot of slashing, the bad guy is one very sick **** and when the gore happens it's pretty shocking. Definitely worth your while to check out.
