Sometimes the best part of horror movies that are like that are that you don't know anything about him. He doesn't need to be a stronger character. It gives you the feeling that any random stranger can just invade your private space and cause terror without you knowing the reasoning behind it or the motives. I prefer not knowing. Imo, it would make it boring to me if they delved into some character expose.

usually when there's no explanation or motives it's just lazy writing/film making. there are times where it works though, but not all that frequently.

I feel like it rarely happens and it's kind of refreshing. It's a horror movie for peats sake, It doesn't need to have strong character development. It just needs to affect you on a visceral level.

do you not hold horror movies to the same standard as other films? weird. if a movie is sloppily made it doesn't get a free pass because it's a horror movie.

I don't actually.
It's strange that people do. There are superior horror movies that stand up on their own as a great film overall but I'm not going to kid myself and pretend that the horror genre in general isn't a sloppy mess fill with jump scare slop. Horror movies have their own standards that aren't the same as other movies. You expect certain things when you head into a Horror movie. Well I do. I really need to start up that horror movie journal of mines. I've put it off for too long.

i mean you could say that about any genre. dramas would be quite **** if you only looked at what was mass produced by hollywood. a good horror movie is a good movie even without the horror elements. if the only thing that makes it a good horror movie is that it scared you then you're just lying to yourself about the quality of the film.
and yes start the goddamn journal already, i've been waiting on that since october.

Rogue One is the best film I've seen this year. It was seriously incredible. Naysayers will claim that the characters felt one dimensional which is true for some but every extreme positive outweighs that one minor negative.
Goddammit it was so good.
