My friend keeps hassling me to watch it but I can't be arsed if it isn't in English. Said it's better than Shawshank.

I wouldn't say it's better, but it's still good. I know where you're coming from, and honestly it's worth reading subtitles. It's a really well done film.

I would say that they're on the same level.

Pan's Labyrinth
Secret in their Eyes
The Man From Nowhere
Mother
Internal Affairs
I Saw the Devil

Well worth watching and having to read subtitles gets really easy once you're use to it.

****ing yes to Pan's Labyrinth. Most ****ed up fantasy I've ever seen, like some old school Grimm's **** for the modern day.

And on that note, Coraline is brilliant both as a fantasy and a children's movie to give children nightmares.

There are very few movies I can willingly watch with subtitles. Cause generally when I watch a movie, it's just background noise and a small visual to look at when I need to look away from what I'm working on. I very rarely actually watch the movie with a fixed gaze.

Amelie is another fantastic film with subtitles. Also, Inglourious Basterds (I think about 2/3rds is in either German or French, so that has to count).

Just watched the Lobster. Jesus **** that film made me uncomfortable, but somehow still verged on self-parody?

Ahh, I loved The Lobster! The performances blow me away each time I watch it.
