Few good starters.

Cheers.

I saw Grave of the Fireflies as well. That is a good film.

If you like A Clockwork Orange I would highly recommend the rest of Kubrick's films.

I never bothered cos I thought they'd be a bit strange. ACO is weird but I watched that by chance and ended up liking it.

I second his suggestion. The Shining, Full Metal Jacket, 2001 (though probably too slow for you tbh), Eyes Wide Shut, and Dr. Strangelove are all absolutely brilliant.

Not sure how well E.T. has aged. I'd substitute Menace II Society in place of Boyz in the Hood. Much superior movie in every way.

Shawshank and Goodfellas are both MUST SEE. Expect to watch each of them at least two times though to fully appreciate them.

On a side note, watch Goodfellas before Menace II society. The Hughes brothers have proudly stated that they blatantly ripped off a lot of Scorcese's filming techniques that he used in Goodfellas when they made Menace.

Spoiler for Spoiler:
The long tracking shots and the foot stomping scenes are two prime examples.

Before you do all that, watch The Raid. And Crank 2. Don't want slow? Boom.

I agree with Batbitch, two fairly recent classics.

Yeah I started to watch that ages ago but didn't finish it. Not sure why tbh.

I watched E.T. a couple of months ago and found it even better than when I saw it as a child. The effects are shit obviously but I really like this film.

Ja I've seen it. Very very good. Some of the better character writing out there tbh.
