Rikki-O : the story of Ricky, has the best head explosion ever.

*I would embed the videos of the head shot and one of the greatest fight scenes in kung-fu history.

just go to youtube and search rikki o

After watching 'Rise of the Footsoldier' I borrowed a copy of 'Essex Boys'.
Same story based around the 3 Rettendon killings, but from the perspective of the gangsters driver.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaand...it was shit.

jackhammer 03-03-2008 01:09 PM

I could have told you that beforehand RT, it is awful. If you can put up with the scouse accents (I have a feeling you probably wont be able to!) the film SHOOTERS directed by Dan Reed is a brilliant film with non professional actors about Liverpool crime. It is a stunning film. You may have trouble finding it though.

right-track 03-03-2008 01:52 PM

Don't know why that's called 'Shooters' for.
Judging by the clip...they couldn't hit a barn door with a spade!

jackhammer 03-03-2008 02:11 PM

It's all in the context of the film.

right-track 03-03-2008 02:18 PM

Talking of gangster films...have you seen 'A Very British Gangster' yet?

jackhammer 03-03-2008 02:38 PM

Is that the documentary? No not yet. It's made by Donal Mcintyre is'nt it? looks interesting.

right-track 03-03-2008 02:47 PM

That's the one.
Centred around Dominic Noonan.
His brother ran the security firm responsible for standing the doors at the Hacienda. The Noonans provide security for most of the night clubs in the area.
The Police credited his brother Dessie Noonan with 24 murders.
In the documentary he hints at 27. He was murdered by a crack dealer during the making of the film.
What makes the film interesting, is they allow Donal Mcintyre freedom to follow them about as they conduct 'business'.

jackhammer 03-03-2008 04:52 PM

Definitely on my list to watch.

Far Beyond Driven 03-03-2008 09:50 PM

Sunshine: A very well made sci-fi movie that is now one of my favorite movies.

I haven't, but I have seen the trilogy, Scar and now The double life...all of which have been equally if not more praised than those two, and I can't say I was mpressed with any of them, apart from maybe Blue. I'll probably see them though, along with the Decalogue, but my expectations are going down with each film. I'm not saying he's a bad director, his films just don't do anything for me. Or it could be Irene Jacob...I can't for the life of me imagine why people are praising her performances. When I saw Red I dismissed it as a peculiar role (of a semi-retarded woman), but now I see that she acts like that all the time...:\

Barton Fink - 7/10

Taxi to the dark side 10/10 - Films like this should be mandatory viewing for everyone, but especially for Americans.

yes that movie was amazing

cardboard adolescent 03-05-2008 09:39 PM

I watched The Night Watch the other night, it was basically the movie Underworld was trying to be and was quite funny at parts, especially the ending. Had enough originality to make up for low budget and deliberately cliche premise.

watched that a couple of days ago, it's solid. I'd agree with that rating.

djchameleon 03-06-2008 08:58 AM

Night Watch was awesome.....I need to see Day Watch and the last one in the trilogy.....I don't recall the name of it though.

cardboard adolescent 03-06-2008 11:58 AM

I am six episodes into this boxset and I'm very disappointed.

Apparently the gladiator battle scene in episode ten is superb but I don't know whether that can make up for what is essentially a Romanised soap opera.

Urban Hat€monger ? 03-06-2008 12:47 PM

^^^

Dr Who was using their sets for an episode in the next series. Can't wait to see how that turns out.

Perfect teeth, expletives before the words were integrated into common language? Hmmm. Visually very well done. Everything else...no. I would appreciate it more if they had the balls to have everything in latin, gallic etc.

Please read the thread. This film has been mentioned a few times already.

I appreciate the first three for what they are. Exploitation Horror movies that at least treat the audience with a little respect via the intricate story lines and an eye (directorially) for images. Saw IV represents the uncultured nadir of the studio based project. A film that has become so dependent of it's predecessors loses it's impetus less than a quarter into it's running time due to it's convoluted plotting and disregard for logic ( If all 4 films were viewed simultaneously).

There will be blood
http://www.cinemaretro.com/uploads/therewillbeblood.JPG

8/10 If it wasn't for the overdrawn ending it would have been 9/10.
Maybe it'll get better on a second viewing.:\

Dude, hide your spoilers a bit better!
And yeah, I thought the ending was rather inconsequential. Everything up to that point was brilliant, especially the music.

jackhammer 03-08-2008 05:26 PM

I know the ending now ffs. It will probably be a while before i get to see it anyhow with the backlog that is accumalating on my shelves.
