Agreed. Although Spielberg was re-telling history. Cameron was telling a Sci-Fi horror fairy-tale.

Saving Private Ryan has some of the best action sequences I've seen. That movie is gold.

He also had an amazing ensemble cast to work with.

He also had Vin Diesel, who was considerably more believable than most of the cast from Aliens.

Citizen Kane.
Quite possibly the most overrated film I think I've ever seen. Bar a few creative camera shots, and some notably solid character writing, it was beyond average.

I definitely agree that it's overrated, but I still think it's a phenomenal film that gets at least 9/10 from me.

But who the **** cares what's actually happening to anybody in that movie?

That's because all film cliches we've used for the past half century were established by that film. It was groundbreaking for the day.

What exactly was so appealing about it for you?

I get that, but an analogy for that would be "just because someone was the first one to pick their nose, doesn't mean that first nose pick was beautiful, it's still just someone picking their nose"

The cinematography is outrageous throughout the whole movie and Kane is a fascinating character. It's not a plot driven film but that doesn't make it bad.

That's somewhat my issue with it; it just seemed to be well directed segment after well directed segment plodding along at an asinine pace. The characterization is great, and the build ups are well placed, but overall nothing really captured my attention.

I just remember being bored by the whole damn thing. Cinematography is cool and all, but appreciating a movie for its technical achievements is Chula-esque, and the acting in general was the same type of pre-70s stuff that turns me off to a depressingly large amount of old movies, so I really can't appreciate how fascinating a character Kane might be as the way he talks annoys me.
