This new Death Note movie, I'm not so sure about the cast. Nat Wolff as Light? As in a Naked Brother? You need someone who can play both kind/innocent and manipulate/insane. I'm not sure if Nat Wolff can do that. And Keith Stanfield as L? I don't see a rapper who played Snoop Dogg playing L. Not appearance wise, but acting wise. L's a very unique character, so getting the right actor would likely be hard. We'll see how it turns out. Maybe I should get a little more familiar with him.

Still, they got Adam Wingard to direct the movie, so I have little doubt about how the overall quality of the filmmaking being great. I haven't seen any of Wingard's movies, but I'm aware he's one of the best modern horror directors. I've heard only good things about him. And with modern horror movies being either unoriginal, remakes, Asylum rip-offs, or cheesy B-movies, it's hard to get a consecutively good horror director these days. And based on the RT scores, it looks like he gets better every time he puts out another great horror flick. He's only done a couple bad movies, but most of them look like they get great reviews. I think this Death Note movie has a very low chance of sucking, poor casting choices or not. I wouldn't be surprised if Wingard put everything he knew about filmmaking into it.

And I really want to see Willem DaFoe as Ryuk.

It's a live action anime adaptation about a show that's nothing but talking and exposition. Who cares if it's not as good as the anime and manga that we already have?

So you wouldn't want a Death Note movie worth seeing? I guess I really want to see it out of my curiosity on how it will go. Plus, I'm really curious about Nat Wolff's possible ability to pull off Light. If he can do that, he'll prove he can play two different people, as two very different sides of Light are a major plot element in the anime. One is a thoughtful and genuine high school student while the other is a manipulative and self-serving mastermind. He can do those, he'll prove he can play pretty much anything he sets his mind to. At least, he'll show the world a new set of acting skills no one would've predicted. Thaty will open up a lot of opportunities in Hollywood for him.

There's not much about Death Note that would translate better to live action. Like I said, it's mostly dudes talking and explaining things. What would be added besides almost certainly cheesy CGI for the shinigami?

Now if we're talking that Evangelion live action movie I keep hearing about that keeps going nowhere, then I'm interested.
