Loved Dredd. Like you said, absolutely a no BS movie. Just goes for it and scores big time. Plus....

I think they had to go that route based on how many who would watch the movie hadn't read the novel. If they'd been faithful it would have thrown too many people for a loop. It was weird enough reading it, can't imagine what it would have been like for someone walking into the movie cold.

Just watched species and am moving onto the second movie. See if they can make a half way decent film like the first one.

The answer is no.

The further you go into those sequels the worse they get but I love B movies so it's just fine for me. I enjoyed them.

Feel free to go into details in spoilers for those who have seen it yet.
I won't go into details because quite honestly, it's been years since I saw the movie and twice as long since I read the comics I mostly remember how I felt about them, not the facts
Well.. it wasn't as good, I can agree. Still, since we're comparing 2 different mediums really, I didn't mind it that much. Some things that are perfectly said in one form don't translate too good to different ones.
I'm one of those people that can, for example, enjoy both the Walking Dead comics and the tv show without ranting about how they differ but instead enjoying the differences.

Thank you so much. I always felt like I'm the only one when people try to compare the books to either films or tv shows. I'm always harping about the fact that they exist within two different mediums. I think it would have been interesting to have something related to it or a little easter egg for diehard fans. I need to re-watch it myself because maybe there is an easter egg related to the squid that was overlooked.

I finished it. It's decent. Not as good. As the first one. I'll watch species 3 soon enough. I'm sure that one's going to be so bad it'll make me cry.

I have to see. If it doesn't make me hurl myself off the roof of my house.

It was a three-hour movie already. Add in the comic story, the island with all the intellectuals, and then the monster and you'd probably add at least a half hour to the run time (and the movie already had some pacing problems, so cutting the time down was the lesser of two evils AFAIC).

Spoiler for spoilers:
The monster probably also would not have translated as well onto the big screen. And I actually like the idea of Dr. Manhattan being the fake "ultimate evil". Instead of people uniting to fight aliens, they're uniting to be good little boys and girls so basically God doesn't come down from the heavens to lay waste to the world. Which IMO makes the heroes' decision to keep the truth a secret even more morally problematic.

Edit: lol@ arguing that a movie one-upped Alan Moore in his own comic while using an Alan Moore avatar.

Lol. Considering I've sat and watched a six hour movie because they stayed pretty faithful to the book, I wouldn't mind it being longer.
