I'm surprised this isn't a genre of music yet.

the soundtrack alone to Under the Skin if perfect....the film itself is beyond words

by chance have you read the book the film is based on?

also in case you have not heard of it please add The Congress to your list....you'll love it

I went to see The Killing Joke in theaters. At the time, I loved everything about it but when I got home. I had some real issues with it. IDK, I will definitely still get it on Blu-Ray when it is released but yeah. If anyone wants me to share what they did to it in animated form I will do a spoiler post about it.

Heh, there's also mumblecore, which sounds even more like a music genre (slowcore always comes to mind)

Ah yes, the soundtrack is great. No, I haven't read the book, I didn't even know there was one. So how would you compare the two? Is the film its own thing?

I've heard of The Congress, but haven't seen it yet. Will go on my watchlist. This is what I've seen so far (I'm including just sci-fi, maybe some borderline cases, and mostly from the last 5 or so years):

Coherence (very, very good)
10 Cloverfield Lane (pretty good)
Under the Skin (great)
Spring (this was disappointing)
Time Laps (ok)
Synchronicity (eh ok, the idea is better than the execution; I loved the noir feel)
Enemy (not really sci-fi, but can be interpreted; very good)
I Origins (good)
Upstream Color (great)
Chronicle (more superhero, but pretty good)
Ex Machina (great)
Uncanny (similar to Ex Machina, but not as good; still better than I expected)
Another Earth (very good)
Sound of My Voice (I enjoyed this even more)
The Signal (this was going strong in wtf department, but then became too actiony)
The Lobster (very interesting)
Beyond the Black Rainbow (the best of the bunch for me, that wouldn't nearly be so great without the amazing soundtrack. Like in Under the Skin, the sound is really complementing the picture)

Phew! I have a feeling I'm forgetting some. Suggestions appreciated.

I'm disappointed you didn't enjoy Spring. I thought it was a good film besides some of the acting from the dude.

A case of high expectations. I knew it was a romance with horror and some sci fi elements, but I expected more mystery in presentation if not necessarily more horror. I tied it together, in my watchlist, with Under the Skin and A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night for the kind of films I was looking for and it pales in comparison to those two. So, not a bad film, just disappointing. Maybe needs a rewatch away from those films. As for the acting,...well 'bad' acting isn't really a turn off for me.

The Fast and the Furious. Pretty good for an early 2000's action film.
