Don't forget to watch Ichi the Killer, Visitor Q, The Happiness Of The Katakuris and Gozu.

I Saw the Devil for the win. Top 5 most ****ed up films I've ever seen.

I was pretty underwhelmed by that one tbh.

Saw The Witch last night, I loved every second of it. 10 people walked out of the theater within the first 10 minutes.

Visitor Q is obviously the third-most famous Miike movie, and I've read enough about it to be really, really intrigued, and The Happiness Of The Katakuris likewise sounds gloriously bizarre and awesome (don't remember Gozu, but that might just be because it doesn't have as notable a name as a lot of his movies. Also really interested in The Bird People of China, as it sounds really cool and unique. Even with only seeing the first third of a single one of his movies the man sounds like one of the most truly out there, creative, and diverse directors I've ever heard about. He's even made children's movies, apparently?(!)

I saw it opening night and half of the theater decided to laugh and crack jokes the whole time... Still, very solid film nonetheless.

Have ya'll seen The Mark of the Devil? It's pretty old so I'm sure the special effects don't hold up but the premise of the movie lends to a ton of really depraved brutality. This is the flick that when it was in the theaters they actually gave you a barf bag along with your ticket.
Spoiler for Spoiler:

While Ichi is gory as ****, it's first and foremost hilarious in a totally ****ed up way. As are the other movies I rec'd. The Bird People Of China is an awesome movie as well. But it's more of a thoughtful comedy drama and not the sick stuff one expects from Miike. Definitely entertaining and very well made though and totally worth a watch. A girl I used to date was really into Miike so I have seen 2-3 dozen of his movies. The quality realy varies. Which is understandable since he has done so many movies. A handful are gold though and a few more handfuls really entertaining. Three of his best movies are even from the same year.

I'm thinking about getting around to Funny Games soon, and I haven't heard that there's a big difference in quality between the original and the remake, and I'd rather watch a film I don't have to read, all things being equal. Should I do the original first or does it not matter?

I like the acting in the first one better, but they're basically identical otherwise.
