^Just watched that. Definitely caught the Haneke similarities but I don't think it was quite as thought out as his films tbh. The Dogtooth comparison I can see as well in terms of dark vibes, plus the way it sets things up without explanation is similar. I agree on the dark comedy element not being strong enough to call it one, even if there were a few parts that made me giggle.
I don't think I'd rate it as highly as you did, but after reading some of your analysis on your blog it made me rethink it a bit. It's definitely thought provoking, I might give it another viewing.

One of my favourites. Wrote about it here some time ago.
I actually found it to be so humorous, that it almost eclipsed the creepiness. Although my mom, to whom I strongly recommended it, said it was so creepy, it was at times unpleasant. You should see some other films by van Warmerdam, he has some great stuff. I've so far seen Abel, The Northerners, Waiter & The Last Days of Emma Blank and they were all a lot of fun.

Frank This movie showed up on Netflix, and I don't really remember seeing much about it when it was released. I saw the description and honestly it looked interesting. I ended up watching the whole thing because it really is interesting. The plot and direction it went in really made it easy to enjoy it in it's entirety. It's on Netflix and I strongly recommend checking it out. Very pleased that I decided to watch it. |

Lost in La Mancha This is a documentary about one of Terry Gilliam's failed attempts to make Don Quixote, where the circumstances stack up against him and his film crew in the worst possible ways. It's a shame this didn't come through because I can't think of anyone better to do a film version of Quixote, the only other filmmaker that comes to mind is Alejandro Jodorowsky. I hope Gilliam takes up the project again, because I can see this being one of his best films.

I didn't even know about it. Is it the same Dune that Lynch adapted? I'll hunt it down.
