Wow, someone who didn't really care for Spoorloos. Shocked and appalled I tell you...

If I hadn't seen the US one first I'd feel differently, however I knew what to expect going in... And you can't knock a good 80's s/t, but in this one it was particularly ill-wrought IMO

EDIT: yup JCVD looks amazing. 'He thinks we're filming Citizen Kane here...'

It's still in my 'to watch' pile. I never bothered with the remake. Anyone seen 'Breakdown' with Kurt Russell that worked on a similar theme (abduction). It's a very under rated film.

Oh yeah that's a good one; with the late, great J.T. Walsh (best villain there ever was)... he was also in Red Rock West which is another gem.

JT Walsh is great. RRW is indeed a great film.

- The cringe factor of macho 80's ultraviolent martial arts silliness
+ The simple beauty of macho 80's ultraviolent martial arts silliness
- Same old plot structure: exposition; training montage (during which essential technique is taught to protagonist); introduction of sidekick, introduction of merciless villain; lengthy fighting montages; demise of sidekick/moment of doubt; a gory climax, villain is defeated at the last minute by aforementioned technique, villain spared.
+ Good old familiar plot structure, pulled of with aplomb. What else did you expect?
- Appalling acting. Appalling script.
+ Hilarious broken English of Chinese actors. Hilarious script: 'Very good... But brick not hit back!'
+ Surprisingly solid and free of plot holes for this era. See: Commando
+ The funny capoeira-monkey man who inevitably gets his spine snapped
+ Always found Van Damme to be the most sympathetic of the beefcakes. And hawt.
+ Forest Whittaker's tabletop haircut

And at the final count Bloodsport gets a +, woohoo

Best review ever. Next is A.W.O.L aka Lionheart.

Agreed... one of my favourites. I've said this before but Tim Burton rocks.
