Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame (2010)
I was home from work sick today just watching movies and I have to say this one surprised me by how good it was. Imagine Sherlock Holmes and an albino Watson as 7th century Chinese detectives trying to solve a series of spontaneous human (and bird) combustions in the days leading up to the coronation of China's first empress in a screenplay written by someone who eats a lot of mushrooms and you have pretty good sense of what this movie is like. Not for everyone I'm sure, but I enjoyed it.

It is amazing at how when you watch movies as a kid, you are like that was so great. Then 20 years later you watch it again and are like seriously? I used to think that was cool? LOL

Cheap Thrills. Highly recommend it. Interesting premise that leads to some seriously interesting stuff. Great dark comedy.

I saw The Great Gatsby and loved it. It wasn't required reading in school so I didn't know the story at all. I kind of regret not seeing in it theaters to get the 3-D experience. It was so colorful and full of life. I should have known it would be like that because it's from the same guy that did Moulin Rouge. Also the soundtrack was so great. It was an odd mix of having modern songs clash with the time period but then certain songs they would put a jazz spin on it and it was just a beautiful creation. The music actually was more in the forefront than just being in the background and helped to tell the story as much as the set designs and costumes. They definitely deserved the Oscars that they won for costume design.

Dark, dark movie. Twisted, awful characters. Great plot. Dug the movie quite a bit. Would recommend if you're in the mood for something evil.

I really tried with this movie but just couldn't get past the first 30 mins. Reminded me of Casshern in that it looked visually amazing but lacking in focus.

The Aussies can certainly do low budget revenge thrillers. A father seeks revenge for his daughters death. Superb and realistic.

Cliched but Jennifer Aniston is ridiculously yummy.

I don't drive and Formula 1 is watchable but I can take it or leave it. This however was stunning especially as it's based on real events. The acting is superb and I was engrossed from start to finish.
