Oh man, I hadn't seen this film in over 20 years and what a curio it is. The world has gone to **** and the only way that temporary truces are sorted is by 60 foot high robots battling each other. This is Transformers meets Real Steel but obviously it cost around 10p and is hilarious at times (as well as being made 20 years earlier). You can spot the wires supporting the robots at times and the dialogue is terrible at times but this could really make for a quality remake considering CGI these days as the story itself has some great ideas. Nice trashy nostalgia.

I have this film haha. I grew up with it...I loved it when I was little. I'm pretty sure the only way to enjoy it is with the nostalgia going strong.

Go watch the scene where the robot crushes a ton of people and you are witnessing the aftermath. Then go listen to the NIN song "The Becoming". Apparently Trent Reznor is a fan, too.

Seven Psychopaths

This film was kind of disappointing but certainly not a bad film. The script was a bit of a mess and it seriously lacked Tom Waits but Walken and Rockwell were FANTASTIC in it and it was at least enjoyable. Don't expect the brilliance that was In Bruges.

What!? your opinion is wrong and you should feel bad.

It was a bit disjointed but it was wrapped up so well by the end of the movie.

Hitchcock

I enjoyed this. Hopkins and Mirren were fantastic as always. I might be biased due to myself being a big Hitch fan but I thought it was well done and certainly worth a watch. Hopkins outside the theater on opening night of Psycho made me giggle. It was awesome.

Damsels in Distress

As somebody put it in a short review, "it's like a feature length Gilmore Girls episode that's gone horribly wrong". That could be taken two ways but I actually ended up liking this movie. It was quirky and funny and I honestly think Greta Gerwig is going to be the next Tina Fey or Amy Poeler (sp?). There were SO many stupid characters in here but that was the point and once you accepted the silliness of the movie the comedy presented itself to you. I watched it free on demand so if you have those kind of services then check it out.

The Loved Ones

Holy sh*t!

What a crazy ****ing movie. One of the more unique horror films you're going to see now a days. It also continued my theory that Australia is pumping out some of the best horror/psychological thrillers of the past decade. They seriously know how to do it. I'm going to be watching everything they have to offer now because this is like the 4th or 5th horror film from them in the last two years that has been utterly fantastic. Check this one out.

OZ The Great And Powerful

first and foremost....this movie was fun....not good so much...just fun....all of the key actors/actresses play their roles so over the top it gets to a point of annoying...which sucks since they are all great...just a bit over the top....but in all honesty it really did not take away from the fun feeling throughout the film....tons of little throw outs to the original classic and a couple of question surrounding the witches answered....actually one of my biggest problems was that the witches really got very little screen time in my opinion.....if you go to see this i highly suggest 3d....if anything for the opening credits and the black and white parts....amazing....overall this was fun....a must for fans of the original and worth the 9 bucks i spent to see it

and the Iron Man 3 trailer floored me :)...i think its gonna be a good summer

Last night I saw a film called Skyline (US 2010). I wouldn't say it was the worst film I've ever seen (that would be Passenger 57), but it came close. I think the lead actor was Eric Balfour, who either cannot act or was severely miscast. Various reviews I read, described the finale as bizarre, but it wasn't really. The story, such as it is, involves a bunch of tiresome people who wake up, in a swanky high-rise apartment, after a party, to find LA has been taken over by a variety of nasty aliens. Why this has to follow a party is lost on me. As usual with tihs type of film, there is lots of screaming, aliens lifted from War of the Worlds, people making irrational decisions leading to their deaths, a sensible woman amidst a bunch of stupid men, lots of computer graphics resembling video games and so on. As it happens, the final scenes imply that a sequel or series is on the way. I assume the studio had second thoughts.

It seems to me that computer graphics have made enormous technical advances in a relatively short space of time, but they are taking the place of sensible dialogue, imaginative plots and convincing characters. The exception is in computer animated films like Toy Story, The Incredibles, Up and the like.

A truly original documentary that is an historical essay, travelogue, art project, literature analysis and an autobiography all in one.

Based upon the book 'The Rings Of Saturn' by W. G. Sebald which has become one of the most lauded books written in the last 20 years, it concerns the authors walks within Norfolk, England and his thoughts whilst walking that then lead to tangents such as silkworm cultivation, post second world war society breakdowns and the works of the writer Thomas Browne.

The film visits each area in the book and builds a visual interpretation via voice overs of artists, authors, architects and even an ex poet laureate to stunning effect.

The soundtrack is by The Caretaker (although very sparingly used) and adds another dimension to an already beguiling project.

Even though I have never read the original book and have heard that it is one of the most difficult reads out there, I was transfixed by this doc that is almost always shot in B&W and is like nothing I have seen before.

Anyone with even the remotest interest in modern literature and/or modern film should check this out.

The only cover I could find about yet another low budget British indie film with heart, soul, attitude and care.

Loosely based upon 'Of Mice And Men' the film is based around Danny a small time thug who also cares for Joseph (unofficially) a huge man with a mental age of 7. What transpires is a film of loyalty, friendship, crime and love that still reaffirms my belief in how good British films can be even with minuscule budgets. Superb film and the acting from the two leads is exemplary.

This has to be one of the most brutally violent anime films I've seen. Great story and artwork, and the final 30 minutes are straight up epic.

I'm currently going through all the movies that were nominated for Best Picture during the Oscars. There were some great movies in that category this year.

I've seen Argo, Les Misérables, Life of Pi and Zero Dark Thirty.
So that leaves Amour, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Django Unchained, Lincoln and Silver Linings Playbook.

From the movies I've seen, I think all the nominations were justified. Really looking forward to seeing Beasts of the Southern Wild, can't believe a 9-year old were nominated for Best Actress.
