I thought I was the only one...it's a classic in my book. It's pure camp and I love it. In fact, all of Carpenter's pre-90's films are great. Not to mention I'm also a Kurt Russell fan. Carpenter does wonders with a minimal budget. Restrict his funds and he works pure magic. That's what made Escape from New York, Halloween, Assault on Precinct 13 etc. such classics...compare that with Escape from LA, Vampires, and Ghosts of Mars. Nuff said. This movie goes right along with They Live! as two of the best movies the 80's had to offer. |

Big Trouble is the only Carpenter film besides Escape from LA that I don't like. I can see what he was trying to do but it just came out laughable. The Thing just may be my favorite horror movie. This was just not my style. Hit me wrong I guess.

Believe it or not I'd never actually seen this film until today, but I have read the novel and seen plenty of Coen Brothers films. I'm literally writing this just after the credits roll so I haven't fully formulated my opinion on it and I don't think I'd be able to say much about it that isn't obvious anyway. One thing I can say for certain is that this was a novel that was absolutely perfect for a film adaptation, or at least one put together by talented producers like the Coens. |
