The Perfect Host
I've never been much to be into dark comedies, but this one was pretty damn good. It was in my queue for a while and I finally decided to watch it. A lot of twists and turns, but it's very easy to follow and it flowed very well. |

Quite annoyed as I watched this online via the official 'Ultraviolet' system where you can watch it legally after purchasing the DVD but it was so pixellated in parts that it was unwatchable. I really dislike watching any movie on my laptop in the first place as it's just not right watching a film on such a small screen so I may be biased but this just didn't grab me at all. Bane was an interesting character but his demise? Too quick and not memorable enough. A second viewing on DVD will hopefully change my mind. What's not to like? Amazing fight scenes, cinematography and music but the main character looked far too much like Tony Jaa to me which I think was absolutely intentional and a couple of fight scenes went on far too long regarding the punishment the human body can take. However it still has more action and energy than a dozen blockbusters and who would have thought that a geeky looking Welsh guy wrote, edited and directed such a film? I still can't make the connection.

Once Upon a Time in Anatolia A very slow and somewhat boring film about a search for a body in the grasslands of Turkey. The cinematography was gorgeous and I appreciated the attention to characters but I found it way too slow and I usually love slow burns. I'm going to have to give this one another view because I've heard great things from it's director and the film did take home the grand jury prize and Cannes last year. I'm not going to rate this one just yet because I feel like there is just too much under this films skin that I have yet to see. Trollheart...I have no idea why the s is in parenthesis. It's a french film so maybe it has something to do with that culture but I don't have an answer for you my friend. |

Wendy and Lucy I nice little minimalist film that did just enough to peak my interest but succeeded in making me a bigger fan of Michelle Williams. She's incredible and can just pour emotion onto the screen without doing a lot. I can recommend this one on the basis that it's a film that shows a lot without really anything happening but it isn't incredibly special. 7/10 |

Such ridiculous praise this movie is getting. I thought it was just boring and disjointed. I particularly don't understand the praise Chastain is getting. I'm shocked she's even nominated let alone a favourite to win the award. |
