Bunny and the Bull (2009) Cute little movie from Paul King, most notable for the surreal comedy series The Mighty Boosh. The film really reminds me of a couple of movies, namely The Science of Sleep for all the painstakingly hand-designed sets, and Wristcutters: A Love Story for the road trip setup involving three young people, whom have feelings for one and other. The two leads are Stephen, an introverted young man who was just recently put in "the friend zone" (ughh) and his best friend Bunny decides to take him on a trip around Europe to cheer him up. Bunny really is the best kind of friend an introvert could have, and there were a lot of times when I just wanted to slap Stephen for being so mean to him. I mean he does stupid things like swimming under a frozen river to stop a homeless man from having sex with a stuffed bear he stole from a hotel, but he's charming enough that you can't stay mad at him, and he always tries to give Stephen the chance when talking to girls. Then there's Eloisa, an attractive Spanish woman whom Stephen has feelings for, but fails to do anything about, despite Bunny's insistence. Best of all, she's not really a MPDG which seems to be the law when it comes to quirky indie romantic comedies. So if you're a fan of either The Science of Sleep, Wristcutters: A Love Story or The Mighty Boosh you owe it to yourself to check this out. It's on Instant Netflix too so you're out of excuses! |

Not the first time I've seen it, but as far as slasher films go I think it's pretty excellent. I hear a lot of people complain that the film has not aged well, but I don't see it. It's not particularly scary (the fact that the villain is revealed and shown so fully to the camera early on takes away most of the element of surprise) but it's got some surrealism to it and use of art that I like (the shot of the woman crawling through the screaming guys mouth is particularly excellent), and I think the score is excellent with the choir, a very unique soundtrack for a horror film. Also, the film takes place in a Chicago housing project known as Cabrini Green, and I grew up near there in the early 90s and know very much about that place, so that little spin to the slasher genre was a nice touch. I lol'ed though, cause that was not the sort of place an attractive white women would go to if she wanted to walk away unscathed. |

Candyman has always been one of my favourite horror movies and one of the more underrated ones. I definitely agree with you about the scene where the woman is crawling through the whole of the guy's mouth, that always scared me. I ended up watching it when I was younger and I was actually kind of scared by it, because it didn't seem that Candyman had to abide by any rules, he could strike wherever and whenever. I also really liked the social commentary on gentrification and urban blight, although a lot of movies from the '80's and early '90's did that.

Damn, I'm just disappointed because the first half was shaping up for a really excellent movie and then it totally dropped the ball. Probably my least favorite Ghibli movie, and nauseatingly cute, but still enjoyable. 3/5 |

I didn't realize that this was going to be an hour and forty minutes of Robert Pattinson trying out his Viggo Mortensen impression. I love Cronenberg, but the guy really needs a great film after his last two duds. I haven't liked anything he's done since History of Violence. Paul Giamatti was amazing though, always is. 4/10 One of the most relaxing movies I've ever seen. Just surfing. Loved it. 9/10 |
