oh man....i'm with you 100% on how much i disliked this when it came out....but what the hell for sport i'll locate it and re-watch it and report my findings

so a friend of mine told me about this....a zombie flick set during the Civil War....sound cheesy.....it turned out to be quite good...concentrating on the human condition where zombies are concerned....some interesting animated sequences also

I'm in the same boat. I saw it in the theater when it came out and thought it was pretty bad, but I'd be willing to give it another chance.

I hated this when it came out in the mid 90's but watched it tonight for the first time since then and really enjoyed it. The dodgy CGI in the film actually works in it's favour now and gives the film a real retro feel but maybe that was the point of it in the first place. It looks like an 80's film now and the climax is really well done and in keeping with the usual nihilistic John Carpenter film endings.

Time for reappraisal and yes I'm looking at Janszoon and Bob for that!
I'm kinda surprised you didn't enjoy it upon release.

Fun fact, the character solid snake from metal gear solid is based completely on snake from efny.

I always thought he was based on Michael Biehn. He looks exactly like him on the cover of the original game:

News: Hideo Kojima gets thumbs up from John Carpenter - ComputerAndVideoGames.com

if you check the mgs wiki, kojima was pretty much "inspired" by every american action star so your not wrong either

This movie was great, but my gosh was it a trip fest. I can't give away much of anything, but the gist of the movie is two lovers who erase their memories of one another and the journey through our protagonist's mind as he tries to save his memories. It was fantastic, but my gosh. Not a light film. Features Jim Carrey playing a rare serious character and doing quite well.

I've been meaning to watch this but I can't tell if I would like it or not, however I think I will watch it after what you just said about it.

seriously you should.....it was well made, well acted, and honesty most of the things Charlie Kaufman writes is pure gold....ie Being John Malkovich and Adaptation....basically if you like the feel of these movies you'll love Eternal Sunshine

If you liked Inception but thought it needed to be trippier and less of a typical summer flick, you'll love this movie. I'm glad you're giving it a go.
