I really only remember one night sequence with him in costume, but I'm talking about the overarching mood of movie here anyway. The setting of the film was largely daytime and it didn't work for me.

I'm saying "incomplete" in the sense that it felt like there should have been more material there.

Yep, loved both of them.

Plenty of night sequences throughout the film with him.

As in what? What would have serviced the overarching narrative?

Interesting. This one is my favorite. Don't care for liam neeson, especially not as ras a ghul. The second is fantastic.

I think this film improved on the action tremendously. Improved choreography (especially for batwoman). And i personally loved the lighting and weather effects during the final fight sequence.

You don't have a cockey douchey bruce wayne taking up screen time.

They already have two films of batman fighting in the dark he had to rise up and kick ass all day in order to save gotham this time

Months flew by with very little indication that time was passing. I would have preferred more of the story of how we got from Bane making speeches in the football stadium to the entire city being under his control, but instead a lot of time was spent on throwaway characters like Foley and Dagget.

The first is my favorite. I thought Neeson was good, but he wasn't what made the movie great to me.

Batwoman wasn't in this movie.

Maybe that's why Batman/Bruce seemed like such an undeveloped character in the movie to me. In the other movies he wore both masks and actually felt like a mutli-faceted human being. In this one he felt like a secondary character in his own movie.

That's great, but unfortunately it looks really cheesy.

I very much agree with this. It felt a bit strange how much of the movie wasn't focused on bruce/batman.

Haven't seen a movie in like three months...

I watched A Film With Me In It with Dylan Moran. I had a good time for 90 minutes. Quite the series of unfortunate events... 8.5/10

They mention the bomb having 5 months left multiple times throughout the film. You have the change in seasons, batman training. I don't agree with this, either.

Why? This film you have to most personal relations between alfred and bruce. You see bruce's first interaction with gordon as a kid, exposition on why batmans identity is universal. The fact that he learned to have to fear death is pretty cool for a quintessential super hero, usually it's the opposite. You wanted the exact same character as the previous films, again?

can't argue with that

"cheesy" isn't a staple of batman's history. Not since his introduction to tv, nor being played by george clooney, no, this film really lays on the cheese.

So mentioning that the bomb is going to go off in 5 months a couple of times really helped tell the story of how we got from point A to point B for you?

Okay, first of all, the shot of Bruce's first interaction with Gordon was a clip from Batman Begins so that certainly wasn't adding anything to the story. Also, Batman Begins had far, far more personal interaction between Bruce and Alfred.

With those two things out of the way, why are you assuming I'd want "the exact same character as the previous films"? What does that even mean? I'm saying I would have preferred the main character to be handled in a way that was more three-dimensional. Nolan certainly pulled that off in first two movies, but in this one he really lacked depth.

Huh? Did I say this was cheesier than the old TV show or Batman & Robin somewhere? What I'm saying is that it was cheesy compared to the other two Nolan movies.

It escalated though. It was the reason for everybody's side plots (which you legitimately disliked) levitt collecting the kids on the bus, gordon getting the crap beat out of him like usual, this time on a truck, etc. It gave batman the perfect time window for recovering.

I thought it was reiterated in pretty good manor.

Oh really? I honestly don't remember that film that vividly. It may have had more but i thought they stuff they talked about was more interesting in this one. Alfred wishing bruce had never came back, maybe that was in the other films as well though.

I don't get what the extra dimension the other films had. You subtracted the playboy bruce wayne for reclusive bruce wayne, got rid of one love interest for two(including catwoman), re introduce training metho's like the first film, i don't get why his character seems less fleshed out this time.

I honestly need to watch those again. I think liam neeson playing raz al ghul is doing harm to the original material, while bane's portrayal in this film is actually improving upon it.

With the characters this film added-catwoman in particular-and the comic locales (raz al ghuls pit) it was certainly going to be more comical than the other films, but I'm just glad they went ahead and did it anyway.

I think they overdid Bane's voice modification, it was quite hard to understand at some points (it seemed like they scaled it back during his stadium speech).

Both of those things happened on the last day of the five month countdown so neither really did anything to tell the story of those five months.

The love interest is actually an excellent example of what I'm talking about. In the first two movies you have Rachel Dawes, who actually has a long history and obvious chemistry with Bruce Wayne. Their relationship is something you care about. In the new movie you have Talia, who is his business partner and has a completely business relationship with him until they abruptly hook up for no reason. Catwoman is even less of a love interest. They share a mutual respect then she kisses him, the end. Not that I'm saying the movie needed some kind of love interest, I'm just saying this is indicative of how poorly the character was handled in The Dark Knight Rises.

I do think it would have been cooler if Ken Watanabe had really been Ra's al Ghul, but Liam Neeson made a perfect Ducard imo, and since the two characters were merged into one by Nolan, I thought he was appropriate for the part. It's kind of interesting that you refer to the source material here though, because I thought The Dark Knight Rises handled Talia horribly. I'm surprised that doesn't bother you too.

As far as Bane goes: I was never really a fan of him in the comics, but I've always felt he had potential. I thought if anyone could make him an effective character it would be Nolan. I didn't feel like his portrayal in this movie was any kind of improvement over the comics. He was basically the same, but with an annoying voice.
