i came in with very low expectations, as i disliked the previous two instalments, but i was gently surprised if you asked me to draw a graph of my feelings throughout this movie, it's one which fluctuates wildly - very high peaks and very low valleys BAH - Bane as a "terrorist", Anne Hathaway as Catwoman ROOARRGGGHHH!!!! - ROBIN, TALIA satisfactory enough - 7.5/10 |

Yeah. Saw The Dark Knight Rises too.
I thought it was on par with Batman Begins, almost a continuation of that one... hell, at times I thought Nolan was trying to remove The Dark Knight from the story line completely. This was further noticed once you realize (as I did before due to an article anyways) that The Joker is not even mentioned once... though one would figure it would be an essential name drop throughout the movie, can't just forget the existence of The Joker after all that time. So I liked it as a continuation of Batman Begins. But, I do not think it measured up to The Dark Knight. Which is my favorite of this trilogy bar none. I left the theatre after that film feeling that high of having my mind blown from a film.... I left The Dark Knight Rises just going, "that was pretty good" and that was all. Nothing really stuck with me the same. I thought Bane was cool, even if his voice got to me at times. Also irritated slightly by the voice as it made him hard to understand. In The Dark Knight, everything was so audible it was easy to follow, dialogue was clear and audible... new one I had trouble at times knowing what to think because his voice was muffled and i had no idea what he was saying. Selena Kyle was alright, while she looked good and had some good scenes, still left me feeling little for her. She was more just the spank material, but a better written one than most like her in these films. Overall, I thought it was a good movie, held up to the first, but not the last. Could have been more "epic" I suppose, some of it seemed rushed and forced (like the kiss from Selena Kyle)... but it is Nolan, he does that. Maybe I just need to see it a few more times, probably just wait for the blu-ray though, watch with captions, haha. I liked it, but not as much as I did The Dark Knight. Though each film is a good stand alone, nothing tops Ledger in that film, or just the chemistry of all involved in that film. Would say 8/10 though (tied with Batman Begins), which is still high.. but after The Dark Knight, which is a solid 10 (in the context of superhero movies) for me still, I expected at least a slightly flawed, but still a great movie.. something a bit more, but the last one probably spoiled that for me too. As I say though, each works as a stand alone film, I think it is a great trilogy none the less. Oh yeah, and I think they set up a Robin story line.... I smell a spin off series.. though probably without Nolan or Bale involved.

yeah, the brief moment where they called him Robin. Was subtle... well unless you know the comics front to back (which i admit I do not) and would just know from the first time they said his name.

Christopher Nolan is the first director as far as I know who follows the comics in the batman movies, while other directors didn't. If that's the case, it's no wonder the movies are as good as they are. I'm not too familiar with the comics myself, but I do know that they are directly based off of them, or very close.

Yeah, I remember watching something with Kevin Smith talking about Tim Burton. How Kevin said something that Tim ripped a scene from one of his comic books, and when called out said "anyone who knows me knows I do not read comic books, especially not one by Kevin Smith" (well something almost identical)... to which Kevin Smith replies "well, that would explain Batman".
I try and forget the 2 after Burton's films... though I admit, Batman Forever, while just mainstream kiddy fare, for what it was was entertaining enough to pass as acceptable. I will admire Nolan for what he did, made more realistic movies of the kind. I see virtually every Marvel movie as the same thing... has so much potential to be great, but throws it away to appeal to the kids more.. probably have a great script, but then decide to dumb it down to appeal more to the young audience who wanna see it because it ties into a happy meal. While Nolans films, though had that marketing, were not kids movies and had ideas that were not dumbed down. Kids will be impressed with the visuals and the booms of the speakers pumping more than the story between the characters. Nolan at least treated his films as adult fiction, that while kids will see it... it is not catered to them at all. That is what makes the Batman franchise now more fun to watch.

Incredibly strong mumblecore, but it's pretty obvious that everyone over 25 hates this already and the group under that number isn't exactly going to be sweet to it. I for one thought it was a pretty self-aware film that did a good job of being relatable while critiquing a lot of the attitudes the characters had. |

Spoiler for robin in the comics:
and also, Selina Kyle here is closer to the comics than Michelle Pfeiffer's version, that's about all I can say the rest of the stuff isn't that faithful especially considering now Bats can't have a son called "Damian" with you know who |
