really good special effects, decent plot and story....dragged at a few points, Stewart's war speech was fucking laughable, the dwarves were really fun, this was yet another summer blockbuster whim.....but worth seeing.....and i did not even have to pay |

Kairo (2001) Translated into English it's Pulse, an odd Japanese film that combines elements of horror, melodrama, and apocalyptic narrative into something... unique. The story can be a little convoluted at times, as the narrative jumps between two stories, it doesn't give you much time for the characters to fully develop, and it can make the story kind of hard to follow because you keep wondering if the characters stories are related, if they know each other, etc. The horror is extremely well done, with just relentless build up, it's almost like having a staring competition with someone, you against the movie with the movie saying "how long can you look for?" This passed my horror test, that being the movie was started with the lights off and ended with the lights on so if you're looking for something scary then the movie definitely delivers. The story... is unique and I think my confusion with it results in my general ignorance to the mythology of Japanese culture that was borrowed for this movie. Again, parallel stories can work when the characters in each are both established as well as introduced, but in this one they don't really do much to establish them. Also it does feel a little strange when the apocalyptic elements start to happen because it never really felt like it was hinted at throughout the movie. Despite all that I do think this is a well done movie that I won't soon forget. If you're a horror fan then you owe it to yourself to see this one, but don't think you're going to see the best thing ever made. |

Just saw Prometheus and loved it
Easily the best movie to come out in the Alien series since Aliens. That's perhaps not saying much, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and don't really have much negative to say about it. Exciting, engaging and gorgeous to look at.

I hope you enjoy it
I would recommend people (re)watch Alien before watching Prometheus, but of course you may not have time. It should be enjoyable anyways of course. As a fan of the Alien, it was very nice to see a movie which adds some depth to the series.

Speaking of Ridley Scott, just saw this for the first time...
It was a lot to take in on the first watch, but I'm impressed. Cinematography was very impresseive, the sets and SFX were absolutely gorgeous, and the themes are definitely something to think about.

This is my favourite movie ever. The final cut version in full HD you can get now is absolutely brilliant. I noticed so much added detail that I couldn't see in the DVD version.

I quite liked Prometheus as well. Never felt like getting up or fixating elsewhere (added to which, my screening had NO intervals/intermissions which I favored). It's a bit ambiguous, but one could easily fill in the gaps. I'm glad that it stuck to its suspense-buildup-a bit of horror science fiction as opposed to overboard action and cheap trick humor. The subtleties weren't all that subtle and I surely cannot call this a masterpiece. But it is enjoyable on its own accord and totally worth the ticket price.
