Saw The Avengers tonight...... didn't like it. I didn't hate it either really.... just thought it was insanely average. Just the typical mindless superhero movie where you can turn off your brain for 2 and a half hours, and just watch pointless action scenes. Deft. not going on the list of best superhero movies of all-time.... The Dark Knight still beats em all.

though you already know i disagree with you about TDK |
I've been using movies as my main form of procrastination over the last few days. I have watched:
Unbreakable - 8/10 I usually hate M. Night Shyamalan but I had heard good things about this movie and I was in the mood for a superhero film. I really enjoyed it. Great performances from Willis and Jackson, and a twist ending that genuinely surprised me. I'd say this is his best movie. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - 9/10 I've been slowly working my way through Charlie Kaufman films. I had seen this one before but it was a lot better on the second viewing. Such an original plot and the characters are great. The relationship between Joel and Clementine is believable and great to watch. The background characters like Mark Ruffalo and Kirsten Dunst were also interesting so it kept me captivated. Gangs of New York - 7/10 This was one of the few Scorsese films I hadn't seen and I was excited as I love all three of the leads. The story is very good and it's a piece of history that I haven't seen on the big screen before. Daniel Day Lewis is fantastic as The Butcher, a real interesting and three dimensional performance. But DiCaprio and Cameron Diaz are just plain boring in this film, they were very dull and this was clear when they were alongside Daniel Day Lewis. |
I Need That Record, this is a good film.

The Avengers was typical Marvel movie, a good action scene, long dialogue, another action scene, more dialogue, another action scene, the end. Though The Avengers had promise for a great movie, and may be like what Batman Begins was, an introduction to a series that will get better as it goes. Though Batman Begins was still a much better and more interesting film. The Avengers was just your typical recycled plot, typical characters (the one who is team oriented, the rebel who only listens to himself, and the rest) The 3D is the last thing... just felt like 3D for the sake of having 3D, never felt like it enhanced the movie, a few times it was cool.. but for the most part, found it pointless. |

Mondo Cane kinda sucks, rest are decent.
Tried watching Mondo Cane, hearing it was the spark for all exploitation films that came out after it, and sure as the first it was controversial, but been bettered since. I found myself bored and skipping though 90% of it just to find anything that would be as shocking as they claimed. Apart from the opening sequence, and a few scattered moments. |

I think I have 3-4 silent movies on the list so far and plan on 3-4 more. I'm not a huge fan of anime, but I watched Akira last year and I really liked it. So far, I've only watched Spirited Away; but Ghost in the Shell, Perfect Blue and Paprika in the wings so far. |

Electrophonic Tonic - Valhalla Rising is stunning, stunning, stunning but certainly not for all tastes. |
