co wrote it along with the amazing and talented Russ Meyers who directed it

Ebert also co-wrote Up! and Beneath the Valley Of the Ultra-Vixens.....both equally amoral

he was also involved in an unfinished Russ Meyers film staring the sex pistols of all people

i think its time to have a Meyers film fest

To me, Ironclad was very mediocre. It was entertaining, but not very much so and in the end, I felt there wasn't really much about it that was memorable. Paul Giamatti as King John was awful, but James Purefoy was good as the lead character. Overall, I think I actually preferred Solomon Kane (which he also stars in) for entertainment value.

I'm still undecided where I stand, I don't know if I can respect myself if I fall into the artsy film student camp, but there were some genuinely tense moments that stuck with me, the meat grinder section in particular. I'm also a huge fan of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. computer games, which took huge inspiration from this movie, so that may be playing on my opinion. On the other hand, I agree with you about the ending and the pacing of the story. Still, if nothing else you've earned some major film nerd cred for watching it.

I would recommend looking up the novel it was loosely based on, Roadside Picnic by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky.
I felt there was just about nothing entertaining happening in this film and so it has to offer something else. It didn't do that well enough (imo) and so the movie did not manage to keep my interest. Overall, I didn't feel it was quite deep or artsy enough to justify it being so tremendously slow.

It's a bit sad because I am highly intrigued by the setting and this movie felt like it didn't really explore the opportunities of its own world that much.

Some interesting trivia is that all that toxic sludge is really toxic sludge. Several involved involved in the production, including Tarkovsky, died from illnesses they likely got as a result from exposure to all that poison.

Anyone else seen The Holy Mountain? It seems perfect for an acid trip. It probably was made by people on acid.

Oh, and I saw Tucker and Dale vs. Evil and enjoyed myself. It was quite entertaining. I got a couple good laughs in...
So, I saw this and couldn't help but comment. Holy Mountain WAS filmed on Acid. One of the rules on the set was that everyone had to be on acid at all times. It's no accident the entire thing is so ****ed up.

I hated Solomon Kane! It felt very forced to me. I understand where you are coming from regarding Ironclad and alluded to it regarding it's script but I really appreciated the filmmakers attempts to make the film as realistic as possible and not resort to pretty picture blockbuster leads and scenery etc.

Giamatti was a very odd choice in one respect for King John but his speech in front of Brian Cox just before 'THAT' scene was superb.

Oh frustration time again There is a superb movie here dying to break free from the filmmaker's indecision as to what sort of film it is. Is it a black comedy, a satire or a serious drama with commentary on big business's? The film's second half certainly suggest serious drama and there was some really good scenes both thematically and visually but the films first half relied too much on wanting to look, feel and sound hip.

The film could have easily worked on any level but certainly not a mish mash of all three, the director just doesn't have the chops for it.

Agreed. It's certainly entertaining, and had a good twist. The critics really tore it apart, but i thought it was better then a lot of the hollywood bloated budget drivel.

I hate myself for guessing the twist There is enough clues in the film.

If there's any film in dire need of a remake or reboot or something it's gotta be this one. Better acting and effects and this really could be a great movie. That said though, it's cool to see musicians like Ice-T and Henry Rollins in a mid '90's cyberpunk movie.

The Expendables

Man, what a weird masochistic fantasy trip this was. It seems like the actors were cast for their advertising rights more then their actual likeness in the film. All of the actors, excluding stallone and statham, only make brief appearances. When the other actors do have screen time it's usually buddying up with stallone, which produces some god awful chemistry. The films attempts at comic relief are shockingly poor. That being said the action is very satisfying and graphic, I was a big fan of Rambo 4 and this is very much in the same vein. Plus seeing stone cold steve austin fighting stallone was a real treat, and probably a wet dream to wwe fans residing in their mothers basement everywhere.

Don't go into the film expecting any form of cohesive narrative, because it is very absent, to the point you wonder if they hired any actual screenwriters. Part of me believes Stallone came up with the story to this film by playing with action figures.

Dolph Lundgren was the actor I appreciated the most in this one .. It was nice to see him again, even though his role was a bit of a Richard.

"Guys, who's the most underrated actor in hollywood?"
"Dolph Lundgren!"

From the comments: Crime, Penetration, Crime, Penetration, Crime, Penetration, Crime, Penetration, Crime, Penetration, Crime, Penetration, Crime, Penetration, Crime, Penetration, Crime, Penetration, Crime, Penetration, Fade to black, Roll credits.
Sounds like a perfect movie to me.
