This one was fantastic. It's simply about aliens (that look really awesome) attacking the block, and the six or seven kids who have to defend it. I'm glad I finally got around to watching it cause this is now my favorite movie of 2011. Easily 9/10. Sci-fi/Action/Horror/Comedy

This one was great too. If you like horror movies, this is a must watch. It completely flips the genre on it's head. It's about some college students who go camping at the same time as Tucker and Dale, the friendly hillbilly protagonists of the movie, are going to their vacation house. To sum it up, the college students eventually think Tucker and Dale are psycho killers, and Tucker and Dale can't understand why these college kids are acting so strange and killing themselves all over their property. 8.5/10 Also, this one is on Netflix Instant for those of you who have that service.

I was a big fan of Attack the Block also. Wish Nick Frost had more facetime. I really liked the story and the soundtrack and plot.

Might check out Tucker & Dale even though horror isn't my mainstay.

I've written it many times before in this thread, but it's probably worth mentioning again that fans of Brazil need to see The Fisher King .. Twice!

I watched Fisher King last night. Though I didn't see it a second time, yet, I must say I must rank Brazil above it, despite being thoroughly entertained. Excellent film though. I didn't even know what it was about going into it, and loved Robin Williams in it. Jeff Bridges did fairly well. Trying to figure out if I liked him more as the Dude in Big Lebowski or Jack in Fisher King, and I'd probably have to go with the Dude also. But Fisher King was a great watch. Is there anything in particular I should look out for on the second watch?

It's a horror film in the same way as Shaun of the Dead.

This movie is fuuuuucking crazy. Such a morbid satire. Imagine breakfast club but with black humor and everyone is killing themselves and social commentary that doesn't quite make sense. Haven't seen anything quite like it.

I watched this recently for the first time in about 20 years. It doesn't quite resonate with me the way it did when I was 14 but it was still a pretty good flick.

Yeah, it just had good shock value for me. I was expecting something completely different when i began watching.

I forgot to say that it's a comedy.

Yeah, man. The 80s was a much sicker decade than John Hughes made it seem. I found Heathers to be a more realistic depiction of high school than any Hughes film.

Glad you liked it :D

I just think it's a brilliant movie with many beautiful details that are a little easier to catch on the second viewing. Most of all, I like the humanity of it. After reading some movie forums, I see some people don't like the last bit so much ..

Spoiler for Fisher King Spoiler:
Jack goes back to being an ******* and Parry slips back into the catatonic state. Many didn't like the movie going back to "square one" so late in it.

But I think that's a very honest portrayal of Jack's character change. Contrary to what many other films could tell you, people don't always change that quickly.

Anyways, as you probably figured out, the movie is about redemption through friendship and it's as much about Jack's redemption as Parry's. I think it's a great story. :)

edit :

Also, kudos to Jeff Bridges for playing one of his best roles ever. The Dude is fun, but I think Jack may be the more interesting character of the two. Robin is of course also good and I feel it's only appropriate to mention Mercedes Ruehl as well (Jack's girlfriend) who is, in my opinion, absolutely brilliant.

True Grit - the original version. I heard this 1969 version was better than the new one. I'm glad I watched it.

The backdrop of beautiful scenery enhanced this surprisingly sweet and honest portrayal of human characters, motivations, and courage. I especially enjoyed the role of 14-year-old Mattie Ross (Kim Darby) with her admirable pluck, dignity, and sense of very directed purpose. She really *did* have grit. She charmingly combined maturity and childish enthusiasm. She had some of my favorite lines, too, such as this one about alcohol: "I'll not put a thief in my mouth to steal my brains."

I was very surprised to see she had short hair. I hadn't expected that at all! It was rather refreshing to have a lead role played by a short-haired girl:

Kim Darby really *did* look amazingly like Justin Bieber! She should get credit for the hairdo. :)
