I loved it the first time, but I actually think it's time for a second viewing. I didn't want to over-do it right off, because I knew it would be one of my all-time favorites after a first watch.

Terry Gilliam
Terry Gilliam is definitely one of my favorites. Ingenious. And as good or a better warning of what's to come than 1984. I love the stupidity of the government, but the menacing stupidity is what's worrisome.

Gotta go back and re-watch it for sure.

I didn't really get a chance to see City of God. I was under the impression that they weren't the same type of films. Like apples and oranges, but as I'm ignorant of *exactly* what CoG is about, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I actually saw Brazil before I read 1984. I kept picturing the movie, it was nice.

Apples and oranges. Literally the only similarity the two have is word "Brazil". Both are a great in their own way.

Brazil actually left me with more of an impression than City of God did, even though City of God "documents" a far more valid reality/concern than Brazil. As Janszoon mentioned, though, the movies are really different.

Brazil is a dystopic sci-fi comedy/drama in which the protagonist Sam Lowry becomes a victim of an oppressive, incompetent (at least when it comes to beauracracy) society. It has a lot in common with 1984, but again .. I'd take Brazil over 1984 as well although I've only ever read the latter.

It's hard for me to decide which one I like best of Brazil and The Fisher King out of Terry Gilliam's filmography, but The Fisher King usually comes out on top. I've written it many times before in this thread, but it's probably worth mentioning again that fans of Brazil need to see The Fisher King .. Twice!

^^1984 (movie) is only worth watching for historical significance, i didn't think that there was anything particularly outstanding about it, besides John Hurt's performance here and there

Two incredibly different films, but I would say that Brazil takes Taxi Driver, but not by much. Brazil: 10/10 Taxi Driver 9.5/10.

i dunno, Taxi Driver overrated much? I'm more a fan of Mean Streets - Taxi Driver - 7/10, Mean Streets - 8.5/10

You see, the joke is that Taxi Driver has nothing to do with Brazil other than featuring DeNiro - it was just a jab at TomClancy11's odd comparison of Brazil to City of God (sorry 'bout that, TomClancy11).

It would never have occurred to me to actually compare Brazil to Taxi Driver.

As for Mean Streets versus Taxi Driver, I love Mean Streets dearly but I think Taxi Driver is even better.
