Hot Tub Time Machine was hilarious, much better than anticipated. I'm only sorry I put off watching it for so long. Plus, I love me some John Cusack.

The use of a full team is nice, but Tom still hogs the spotlight, but he looks old and not very believable in the stunts he did. Addition of Simon Pegg as comic relief is good, but he's under-utilised. The story is pretty much cliched Cold War paranoia revisited and I can think of at least 10 films that did this better. No "twist" as well. Tepid - 4/10

This is so much better. It has a pretty similar plot to the above movie, an insane megalomaniac wants to start the next World War, but the execution is better. Insanely funny in parts. Immensely satisfying. The chemistry between Downey Jr. and Law is priceless. Some parts which I would prefer cut but still pretty good - 7/10

lol. Did you not read my last post?

I get that certain references may hit home to you personally, but even those surely don't make up for what was a completely sub-par comedy.
The thing is that I didn't think it was subpar, I thought it was hilarious. Just like a couple other people in this thread who, not coincidentally, also happen to be close to my age.

Of course I read your post. I think the foreign film analogy was weak to be honest.

Also, I know many 19-21 year olds who enjoyed the film.

wow....i love that of all movies to spark an argument its Hot Tub Time Machine

i'll throw in.....i loved it....went and saw it in the theater with my brother in law (also in his 30s) and my 13 year old nephew (his son)....when it was over Jason (brother in law) and i were in tears and my nephew just looked confused....he asked me if people in the 80s really did that much coke!....classic

i have to agree 100% with Jackhammer on this...i loved this film but could not not find any humor or entertaining quality to Scott Pilgrim....not that it was a bad movie....i just felt it was stupid and not really that funny

Hot Tub Time Machine was specifically made for those of us that grew up with that exact type of film.....i'm sure there are plenty of younger and older people who find that movie to be hilarious.....but it was made to attract a specific age group and appeal to them....and it does quite well.....a very specific "80s" plot, aged 80s characters (including heavy metal guy and "cure" guy), and even a few great throw outs to classic 80s films (where's my two dollars).....it was damn near perfect for what it is

anyways last night i watched.....

it's one of my all time favorite films....ever since my hormones decided that i was heterosexual i've been in love with Audrey Hepburn.....and her portrayal of Holly Golightly is basically my dream girl......i watch this at least once a year and over the holiday i got a new special deluxe copy of it

Again, you may have enjoyed the film and liked the humour, that is fine. However I got it and still thought it was rubbish for the most part. It had nothing to do with me being younger.

I think I am intelligent enough to understand "Cure guy" to be honest, it just didn't make my laugh that much.

I enjoy many films made in the 80's or set in that time frame, this just didn't hit the bar.

Also, watched Shrek lastnight. Never bores me, even after around 20 watches.

i find American comedy to be something of an anathema to British comedy

a lot of the Zucker-Abrams-Zucker stuff are not really held in high regard by Brits

Most would say they like Airplane, Hot Shots and Police Squad (ones I know they made off the top of my head).

How so? Do you not think people who grew up during different time periods have a different frame of reference for things?

I never said it was impossible for someone that age to enjoy it, I just said that it's more likely to appeal to people within the age range I mentioned. Thus far the age split in this thread between people who loved it and people hated it seems to support what I'm saying.
