It was good. The movie itself is a perfect explanation for a theological hell.
Spoiler for EHHH:
A bunch of friends trapped killing each other and getting killed by a bunch of monsters underground.
For those that dont know this movie has two endings. One is the U.K. version and one is the american. I prefer the U.K., especially after hearing that there was a sequel to this movie.

Not sure. I can appreciate references to the 70's and 80's, I just thought it was a below par film.

I think there's a difference between appreciating the references and having it hit you on that gut level where comedy thrives. Like Jackhammer said, it it's definitely a movie with an age-related niche. For those of us who are the right age, it's hilarious, but I can completely see why anyone outside the niche wouldn't like it.

But it wasn't exactly deep and meaningful nostalgia. Hi-Tops and fades... Okay.

I didn't say it was deep or meaningful, just that it probably only works for a very specific demographic. Think of it in terms of culture. For example I've seen some foreign comedies that I don't find even remotely funny even though I'm fully aware of what the jokes are. The problem is I'm not from the right culture for those joke to hit me in just the right way to be funny. With Hot Tub Time Machine it's not about being from the right place for the jokes to make you laugh, it's about being from the right time. Sort of fitting for a movie about time travel I guess.

I consider myself quite in-tune with older generations and understood most of the jokes in the film, I just didn't find it all that funny.

I don't even think it is aimed at your age group. It is a big production that was probably watched by more 16-25 year olds than any other age group.

I get that certain references may hit home to you personally, but even those surely don't make up for what was a completely sub-par comedy.

It's my best friend's favourite comedy, but I found it rather crude myself and didn't much enjoy it. A couple of laughs, but mostly it made me feel discomfort.

You may consider yourself quite perceptive, but nostalgia is a funny thing.

Having said that, I would give the film a C.

Hot Tub Time Machine was hilarious, much better than anticipated. I'm only sorry I put off watching it for so long. Plus, I love me some John Cusack.

The use of a full team is nice, but Tom still hogs the spotlight, but he looks old and not very believable in the stunts he did. Addition of Simon Pegg as comic relief is good, but he's under-utilised. The story is pretty much cliched Cold War paranoia revisited and I can think of at least 10 films that did this better. No "twist" as well. Tepid - 4/10

This is so much better. It has a pretty similar plot to the above movie, an insane megalomaniac wants to start the next World War, but the execution is better. Insanely funny in parts. Immensely satisfying. The chemistry between Downey Jr. and Law is priceless. Some parts which I would prefer cut but still pretty good - 7/10
