as said before...wow

went into this without having seen the original or read the book.....so what i saw really grabbed.....just a really good film....action, suspense, sexy....everything you would expect.....dragged a bit and rushed for closure at the end.....but overall a VERY good movie

i queued the swedish films in netflix and just bought the books......:)

A surprisingly... well, tame Studio Ghibli film. It's more about the human condition and youthful imagination, and I felt it lacked a strong central plot. It just kind of meandered across the (very pretty) countryside. I didn't find it as interesting as Spirited Away or as exciting as Princess Mononoke, but perhaps it will grow on me.

Porco Rosso, an anime from 1992 I think. Funny adventure story about a pig that is a bounty hunter.

That bald headed slightly misguided fella with a leather jacket and Iron Maiden T shirt reminded me of someone! Quality film especially if you grew up in the 80's.

Haha, that movie was great! Way better than it looked I thought.

I didn't like it to be honest.

I seriously think you need to be in your late 30's to really like it, just the same as being in your late teens/early 20's to like Scott Pilgrim.

Both films were certainly designed to appeal to a certain demography.

Not sure. I can appreciate references to the 70's and 80's, I just thought it was a below par film.

White Oleander, and it did absolutely no justice to the novel, I'm afraid. Both characters were portrayed as soft and wispy, which was nothing like I'd imagined them reading the book. A lot of the context of Astrid's character was changed, and a lot of the book's content glossed over for a PG13 rating.

it is one of the first Miyazaki features, so don't expect much

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind is a much better early Miyazaki film
