Saw Amélie a few days ago for the first time in like eight years. It's a great movie, beautifully shot, and with some real cute script. It does however gives you false expectations on how great Paris is; it's more or less portrayed as a paradise. It's quite a boring, though beautiful, city, so prepare to be disappointed when going there after watching the movie.

El Topo -

****ing loved it, albeit it's a taste of it's own. Jodoworsky has this magic way of portraying a form if film, and never letting the viewer in on how serious he's being, or not being. Written entirely in symbols, yet unlike Holy Mountain, has a somewhat followable story in it's own way.

A Spaghetti Western(or potentially parody of?) that serves as a fantastic little metephor for seeking moral self(or also potentially parody of?). Gruesome imagery, often sexually perverse. Very toned down compared to the even grander Jodoworsky classic 'Holy Mountain'(which isn't saying much), but gains a lot from it in terms of what little consistent motion this film has, which to scrutinize would be missing he point.

It also has a scene were a cactus fruit is used to symbolize vaginal fingering and cunnilingus, and many other amazing things.

Top rate movie for he art weirdo, like nothing else.

I liked this a lot. Really good characters, music, acting, plot. I also really liked the ending. 8/10

Nick Cages character was so sick, but I think the movie could've been like half an hour shorter. 7/10

I quite liked it, though was confused by David Bowie's presence. I was disturbed on multiple levels, likely moreso than with Eraserhead - because, I mean, I had two seasons to get attached to the characters, and certain scenes were just difficult to watch.

I will never get the image of The Man From Somewhere Else eating creamed corn out of my head, also.

First we watched La Maschera Del Demonio, also known as Mask of Satan or Black Sunday.

Supposedly, it is one of Tim Burton's favourites. It's about a witch and her undead helpers coming back from the dead to terrorize the family who put them in the grave to start with. The movie was pretty good, definetly entertaining with great sets and atmosphere. It was also pretty morbid for a movie from 1960 with some gross special FX and you can definetly see the heritage from this to later movies like those by Lucio Fulci who must have been very inspired when watching stuff like this (it's definetly an eye popper). It never quite managed to scare me, but I'd still recommend it to all who like horror, particularly those who enjoy italian flavours. I reckon Lee might like this if he hasn't seen it yet.

Then we saw House on Haunted Hill from 1959

Which of course is a campy classic :) The story is remarkably similar to that from The Haunting which is more famous and came out a few years later. Vincent Price plays an eccentric millionaire who invites a group of people to a ghost party in a haunted house he has rented. Each guest gets 10 000 dollars if they can last the night and of course all sorts of spooky stuff happens. The movie gets a bit silly occasionally, but that's alright because it doesn't feel like it takes itself too seriously. Unlike Mask of Satan, it actually had a scene which made the wife jump quite a bit so it manages to be spooky now and then too. The best thing about it was definetly Vincent Price's role.

Recommended to fans of old horror films or ghost mysteries :)

i agree 100% with Jackhammer on this.....you really have to take giallo/horror at face value.....and i'm sorry but in my humble opinion nobody does it better than Argento......that scene where the girl is running through the forest and the amazing Goblin soundtrack is playing....is still to date one of my favorite scenes in any horror film.....the first killing and the shot the proceeds it is still one of the best ever made.....people have written entire thesises (plural for thesis?) on the scene where the dog attacks the blind man.....concentrating on the plot is just as bad as trying to figure out why there would be a random room full of razor wire at a school of dance :).....Suspiria to me is just wonderful eye heroin

Really for a movie of this status, I thought the plot was utterly ridiculous(Seemed more like a summer camp than a chain gang. They could gamble, smoke, drink coke, and seemingly loved their work...). With that said, It's a thoroughly entertaining film, if not slow.
