Actually, that's a rather embarrassing oversight by myself. Especially since the point of the film is to represent 3 nationalities perspectives.

As for any prequel, I just picked this up for Wook, and Dumplings was just a pleasant addition. I'm curious though, has Fruit Chan done anything else for me to look into?

the first two of his 1997 trilogy are worth looking into (basically tied into the impending turmoil of handover of Hong Kong back to China)

Made in Hong Kong is a work about disenfrachisement, aloofness and alienation of the youth

The Longest Summer is about discarding old guards of the British system and absorption into the crazy laissez faire world of China and it's a great heist movie to boot

haven't seen the third one

Put both on my list.

Also, just watched 'Enter The Void', and was disappointed. I mean, the visuals were truly amazing, and the story was kind of put together ok. Problem was, the story was so simplistic, and I felt the beating over the head with 3 hours of Freudian "leaving mother, leaving innocence" metaphors was a bit excessive. Could have been easily half the length without the bizarre psychedelic porn, and scenes that seemed to establish points made 80 times earlier.

Essentially, a potentially great file destroyed by it's insanely pretentious excesses.

Haxan - Film classic, and rightfully so. Albeit, the 'medical comparison' bit in the end of the movie was ridiculously outdated, makes for an interesting social commentary.

When I DON'T like quirky American Indie films : when the characters are quirky and in everyday situations making everything seem forced to me as if it's quirky for the sake of it.

When I DO like quirky American Indie films : when you can identify with everyday characters that happen to go through quirky situations and this was definitely one of those.

The chemistry between Roth and 2Pac was superb although Roth does blow 2Pac out of the water. It works within that tried and tested formula of 'the day from hell' scenario but it is also a well written critique of bureaucracy and class divide in America without ever forcing it down your throat and remaining watchable throughout. A cracking little movie.

Superb documentary that works on so many levels. What begins as a guerrilla doc about street art becomes something altogether more subversive and imaginative.

Who the joke is on remains the overriding theme of the doc.

That was a great movie. I'm a fan of Banksy's art to begin with but I had no idea that movie would be so damn entertaining—and speculation inducing.

Although it is not strictly a 'Banksy' film per se as he didn't shoot any of it, it still emphasises a brilliant mastery of several mediums by Banksy.

I have rarely come across an artist that consistently delivers in whatever medium he chooses to explore whether it is murals, sculpture, paint or indeed, media manipulation.

I admire his anonymity even more after this doc. He could have made this his film and come out and proclaim himself as the main influence for MBW and take the plaudits but instead he still obscures his face and voice and remains both witty and understated as well as ever illusive.

You still can't help warming to Thierry Guetta though!
