it was released where i live on my birthday.....and my mom said to me "i'll pay for you to go see this movie if you read the book first".....i'll never forget sitting there reading the book and my mom (who had never read or even heard of Naked Lunch) coming up to me and asking me what was happening in the book!....i did not have the heart to tell what i was reading and what it was doing to my young brain......i think i just said...."i have no idea" which was true indeed |

There are many films deemed cult classics that I have never seen so I am trying to rectify that:
Superb use of music even though Rock N Roll isn't my thing and I can certainly see why it is loved by many. I couldn't quite get into the nostalgic value of the film coming from the U.K but I guess it's similar to the film Quadrophenia. Both are rites of passage movies, well directed and with great soundtracks but I can relate to the gang culture much more in Quadrophenia than The Wanderers. Decent film though even if it felt a little stylised to me. I like B movies.I like Martial Arts movies. I can suspend my disbelief when a film is made from a video game but I thought this was an absolute crock. A B movie trying to be something far more than that rarely works. The effects that the film relies on so much are patchy. The fight scenes are average and there seemed to be no plausible reason why one fighter was pitched against another. If Goro is undefeated then surely he is the Mortal Kombat champion? and to be beaten by a sub par film actor/ martial artist on a cliff edge within a couple of minutes is pathetic in film terms. I am sure there are many MK game fans out there to fill in some blanks but honestly. Even taking into account it's origins it was still awful. The soundtrack is damn good though I Have to say

The Adjustment Bureau
I don't know but I think this movie got bad reviews when it came out. I loved it though. I want to read the short story The Adjustment Team now because of it. I had no idea it was going to be such a "chick flick" at least that's what it felt like. I did like the slight hint of science fiction that was added to it though. I guess technically it would be considered a romantic thriller. My Soul To Take I went into this movie with very low expectations and by the end of it, the twist kept flip flopping and I couldn't tell which way it was going to work out. There were three possibilities but it wasn't clear until the twist was revealed. Wes Craven was behind it so I shouldn't have doubted it.

My fitrst Johyn Waters film (zzzzzzap!). Not brilliant by any stretch, but great fun all the same, with the odd pretty hilarious scene here and there (like rounding up action movie fans to fight off an angry horde of family moviegoers). Packed with neat little in-jokes as well. All in all, about an hour and a half well-spent. |
